As part of its ongoing investment in Cleveland’s Plan for Transforming Schools, of which the goal is to ensure every child in Cleveland attends a high-quality school and every neighborhood has a multitude of great schools from which families can choose, The George Gund Foundation commissioned award-winning Boston photographer Lisa Kessler to capture the pulse of public schools in Cleveland today. For two weeks, she immersed herself in district and partnering charter schools across Cleveland, capturing the unbridled enthusiasm, hard work, and sense of community among students, teachers and parents.
The complete photographic exhibit titled “Changing Minds” will be showcased at the Cleveland Public Library’s Louis Stokes Wing from September 2 through October 28. The title reflects how Public schools in Cleveland are dispelling myths, breaking down barriers, and re-picturing education.
