New 2016 Class Schedule - Gift Certificates available
Weaving for Beginners – Feb/March 2016
This is a four-day course spread over two weekends. The first weekend will be spent learning the basics: you will weave samples, learn how to read a weaving draft and work through all the steps of designing and planning your own project. The second weekend is all about your project! You will dress the loom and weave a piece to your own design. You will also learn some techniques for finishing your woven cloth.
The course fee includes everything you will need for weaving. The class is designed for complete beginners, but is also suitable for ‘rusty’ weavers who want to refresh their skills.
Dates: Saturday 27 & Sunday 28 February, Saturday 12 & Sunday 13 March
Times: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm each day.
Venue: the workshop will take place in my Meadow Mill studio.
Booking is essential as there is a maximum of four people in each class.
Gift certificates are available and can be sent to you or directly to the gift recipient. This service is free in the UK and there is a small flat rate charge for sending a certificate overseas.
Introducing Double Weave – 6 & 7 Feb 2016
Over two days you will be introduced to the techniques of double weave: a method of weaving two layers of interconnected cloth, which is much more straightforward than it sounds and also extremely versatile! It can be used to create cloth with pockets, tubes or pleats, or combined with colour planning can produce delightful, unexpected patterns.
One of my personal favourites in the pantheon of weaves, double weave can be woven on 4, 8 or more shafts. This class will be tailored to the skill level of each student, but note that it is not suitable for complete beginners who have never woven before. I recommend completing Weaving for Beginners first.

Off the Grid: A Lace Quartet – 16 April 2016
Off the Grid is a series of day schools exploring ways to create handwoven cloth with curves, bends and even ruffles. Each workshop is complete on its own, but together they provide a portfolio of techniques for weaving unusual and interesting cloth. Most of the techniques can be done using a 4-shaft loom, though weavers are welcome to explore the possibilities of 8 shafts if they wish.
This day school will focus on different kinds of lace weaves. Some types of lace are based on specific threadings, while others are hand-manipulated and can be used whenever the weaver feels like it! In all cases the intention is to move warp and weft threads out of alignment to create areas of openwork in the woven cloth. We will explore both loom-controlled and hand-manipulated lace in our quartet of weaves.
Date: Saturday 16 April 2016
Time: 10:00 am – 4:30 pm
Venue: the workshop will take place in my Meadow Mill studio.

Taster Day – 23 Jan 2016
A ‘taster day’ is a one-day workshop which includes hands-on experience of all the processes involved in weaving your own cloth. You will create a woven sampler to take away with you at the end. All the weaving is done on four-shaft table looms which are prepared in advance and ready to use. You can see some examples of the work produced at a taster day here.
Date: Saturday 23 January 2016
Time: 10:30 am – 4:00 pm
Venue: the workshop takes place in my Meadow Mill Studio
All materials and equipment will be provided and no previous weaving knowledge is required – though it also makes a great refresher course!

Gift certificates are available for all day schools and can be sent to you or directly to the gift recipient. This service is free in the UK and there is a small flat rate charge for sending a certificate overseas.
