AB 2509, authored by Assemblymember Phil Ting, clarifies cyclists' right to ride side-by-side whenever such riding has the same impact on traffic as riding single file. While not currently illegal in that circumstance, too many police officers and members of the public think that it is, leading to unnecessary conflict and sometimes expensive citations.
