This is a handsome kitchen/garbage bin pest dipteran that occurs along with D. melanogaster with similar habits, but is more common later in summer and is larger and heavier. Characterized by a heavily striped abdomen and mottled dorsal thorax. Can be cultured easily on Drosophila food. Images taken down dissecting microscope of live flies immobilized temporally on a freezer cold block.
