Tiger Eyes is the third in a series of works based on the wolves living at Mission: Wolf in Colorado. Tiger and his sister, Rosie Valkyrie, were born in 2013.

I was enjoying a nice steak and lobster dinner for New Year’s Eve when I got the “look.” How could I resist? After getting a quick shot with my iPhone—I knew there was a quilt in the look—I cut a small piece of steak and lobster to share with Drew.

This unlikely group of animals has come together for summer camp. Sara is a rescued boxer mix. Her fellow pup friend is Samantha Ann Marr, aka Sam. Their feline friends are Max the tuxedo cat, Pi the orange tabby, and Buddy in basic gray.

This trio of goats produces wonderful fleece that is handspun into yarn and hand-knit into wonderfully soft, lacy scarves.

The majesty of the arctic wolf emerges from this almost life-sized rendition of Illiamna, the alpha wolf in his pack at the Mission Wolf sanctuary in Southern Colorado. Commercial and hand-dyed fabrics were used to capture the curiosity and intelligence of this beautiful animal.

The year is 1949, and Mary Nelson from the suburbs of Chicago has just married Ralph Yates and moved to the Drowsy Water Ranch near Hot Sulphur Springs, Colorado. She has always been an animal lover, so she quickly makes friends with Alpine III, one of the prize bulls. You can almost hear her say, “I need a photo to send to the folks back home.”

Getting a new set of shoes isn’t always fun. Can you tell Mac is less than impressed? It’s a good thing the rope is tight, or he would be letting Ralph know how he feels. A little nip is all it would take. (I, too, hate shoe shopping.)

If there’s a party around, these llamas are going to be there. Here they dance across a background made from an old dresser scarf with hand-crocheted trim that has been hand-dyed.

If you have ever been caught in a rainstorm, you know the plight of this unlucky red-tail hawk. After a summer downpour, she ruffles her feathers in an attempt to dry off. We all know the feeling of having a bad hair day.

Images of the llama can be found in weaving and knitting from many Andean cultures, where the animals are prized for their lanolin-free wool. Here, our modern llama contemplates his past, represented by the three stylized llamas on the right.

What seemed like a good idea turned into disaster for Drew when he came up against a plague of grackles. Let it be said that chasing fledgling grackles will result in the adults chasing you into the house. Lesson learned.
