we have the fruits.

I've been on a real banana bread tear lately and obviously can never be convinced that I've achieved banana bread perfection.

it isn't dead, it's just resting

Chivalry, that is.

I definitely don't want to get into any sort of conversation about feminism (and people who know me might suggest that I usually don't want to get into any sort of conversation at all...), though I might be dancing around the topic a bit in this post. You've been warned.

his favorite

While I'm assuredly pretty close to the tippy-top of my boyfriend's list of favorite people*, this is a post about his favorite desserts.

*I'm pretty sure he isn't thrilled that I'm focusing on him in a post, and it could result in me moving down a notch or two on the aforementioned list.

blessed be

There seems to be ample evidence that many of my favorite side dishes could almost double as a dessert--I've posted several that have plain ol' granulated sugar as an ingredient (exhibits A, B, D, M, and R, for starters). I must have a sweet tooth or something.

"pretty please...

...with a cherry on top." So many times, the promise of that cherry makes all the difference and suddenly, like magic, the person you're asking to do something for you is willing to do it.

the ones you know by heart

Most of us have recipes we've made so many times that we know them backwards and forwards and could probably carry them out blindfolded and with one hand tied behind the back. I have several of those, and this is one I can't believe I haven't shared.

no fire required

While there are a number of sweet treats associated with New Orleans (beignets and bread pudding, to name a few), one of the most awesome desserts that has its origins in The Big Easy is bananas Foster. For my money, it’s hard to beat the combination of bananas, butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and rum.

mommie dearest

Here I go again, posting a cheesecake recipe even though I've come right out and said that cheesecake is not something that makes me swoon. I still find it tolerable at best.

That said, I will gladly tolerate anything that looks as impressive as this treat, with its lovely swirl of raspberry preserves swimming through a smooth, creamy cake.
