During his campaign for President in 2016, Senator Bernie Sanders stated over and over again that the future of America was dependent upon its willingness to start a political revolution. Real change never occurs from the top down it always happens from the bottom up. That's what he said when he ran for President, and that's what he believes now more than ever.

At a time of massive and growing wealth inequality, with the US moving closer and closer to an oligarchic form of society, and in the shadow of the most reactionary Presidency in the history of the Republic, Sanders is calling for an unprecedented grassroots political movement to stand up to the greed of the billionaire class and the politicians they own.

And the good news is, progress is being made.

In this important new book, America's most popular political figure speaks about what he's been doing to oppose the Trump agenda and strengthen the progressive movement, how America can go forward as a nation and the impact that can have on the global stage.

In an era that leaves many would-be liberal and progressive voters feeling frustrated about politics, Bernie Sanders shows what he stands for, not just what he stands against. In this book, he details the core values of the progressive movement and translates them into the actions that will truly uplift the nation and the world.

BERNIE SANDERS ran as a Democratic candidate for President of the United States in 2015 and 2016. He served as mayor of Burlington, Vermont’s largest city, for eight years before defeating an incumbent Republican to be the sole congressperson for the state in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1991. He was elected to the Senate in 2007 and is now in his second term, making him the longest-serving independent in the history of the Congress. He lives in Burlington, Vermont, with his wife, Jane, and has four children and seven grandchildren.

Positive message for these troubled times.
People like Nathan should have verified purchase to write review. Funny how the haters haven't bought the book.Bernie Sanders is a great patriot who message of "despair is not an option" rings true regardless of your political affiliation. Both the right and the left fear Sanders and his message. Multinational corporations, Wall Street, drug companies and media conglomerates do have something to fear with his message of empowerment for the people who were often forgotten by those on the right and left of the political spectrum. He is actually right when describing that Americans are moving toward his ideas such as higher minimum wage, healthcare for all and making tuition less of a burden for all students. His previous books offers more details about how this will work. And it will work. If you truly believe that America's the greatest nation on earth then why can't we build our crumbling infrastructure, make the Internet available to all parts of our nation and provide healthcare as a right. Those in the mainstream Democratic Party are already feeding negative information to stop his message. But it will not be stopped. As long as Sanders had a voice so do the forgotten elements of the society. Feel the Burn

Being from Vermont, I was familiar with Sen. Sanders when he was elected Mayor as an Independent in Burlington, Vermont, in 1981. He was a self described democratic socialist which raised quite a few eyebrows in Vermont. I do remember that he improved the waterfront area and was elected for 3 terms. After that, he was elected to the US House of Representatives in 1990. And, has been a member of the US Senate since 2007.

Senator Sanders is pro-labor, for universal health care, for paid parental leave, raising the minimum wage to $15.00 an hour and also for tuition free education.. If he decides to run for President in 2020, it would not surprise me one bit.

Senator Sanders has written an excellent book on his past political life, his current agenda and his hopes for the future. One quote that I truly appreciated is 'Despair is not an option'.

I was also impressed with the numbers of the chapters in the grassroots activism...Up to 600 now and growing. A movement which I believe will keep on increasing as time goes along.

Some of the topics Senator Sanders covers are climate change, minimum wage, health insurance, DACA (Deferral Action for Childhood Arrivals), speeches he gave including the one at the Democratic Convention as well as his ideas on foreign policy. There is a lot more covered and those topics mentioned previously are only a few.

One other item that caught my attention was his criticism of corporate media.. To paraphrase Senator Sanders ....relatively little attention is paid to the most important issues facing working people.....politics and government are treated as if they were entertainment.....Very true in my estimate.

Personally I don't understand how Medicare for all would work unless the US completely reforms the current system. I read an article recently written in July of 2016 by The Heritage Foundation concerning Medicare. A portion of that was written by the NY Times and they stated that 'waste, fraud and abuse cost $60 billion dollars a year which is 10% of the Medicare costs.. In addition, another 43 billion + was for improper payments.'

All in all, a most informative and inclusive book written by Senator Sanders.

    Most highly recommended.

I follow Bernie pretty closely on social media, and I found this book both entertaining and informative. Entertaining because each short chapter reads like a journal entry, written in Bernie's voice. In that way, it's unlike any other book by a politician out there. His basic authenticity shines through. It's informative because it tells what he did, why he did it, and where he was in every month of the past two years. Some hard statistics are provided, alongside the details of his efforts, but also his personal feelings and motivations are provided. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a better insight into this fascinating political figure and what motivates him to keep on pushing for the common people despite watching younger colleagues and friends enjoying their well-earned retirements.

A terrific read — quick and to the point. I just put the book down and feel like I just had a conversation with Mr. Sanders from across my kitchen table — and instead of him talking about himself and spewing empty rhetoric, he has written all the points down on a single piece of paper, turned it around, and slid it to me on the other side of the counter. The issues are clear and concise, with the last point on the page written in bold letters and underlined three times: IF YOU WANT REAL CHANGE, IT MUST COME AT THE GRASSROOTS LEVEL. AND THAT MEANS YOU AND MILLIONS OF OTHERS LIKE YOU MUST STAND UP AND DEMAND A GOVERNMENT THAT WORKS FOR ALL, NOT JUST FOR THE FEW EXTREMELY WEALTHY AND POWERFUL.

Trump supporters will bring up Venesuala at the drop of a hat then will accuse the left of being programmed NPCs and those neoliberals that are part of the "resistance" hate Bernie and what he stands for. Look "resisters " you say you're high and mighty yet support the statis que that makes half of all americans live in or near povertity. You crow and appalud obama yet he tried to cut social security and just put his name on a healthcare plan that Mitt Romney made up. Your support of him and other neoliberals who are neoconsertives that don't hate gays as much, Obama didn't support gay rights until he evolved in 2013, caused a Donald Trump presidenicy. OPbama was different on the outside and a slightly more left Geporge Bush o the inside. Untilis his supporters realize this we can never more forward as a country.

This book will appeal to all those who are disgusted by the policies, antics and idiocies of Donald Trump. It reminds us that there is another radical America that has grown in strength since Trump's election, as was shown in the 2018 mid-term elections. As an account of radical activism in these two years it is inspiring to read, leaving the reader some hope among the despair of the current daily headlines. Do read it.

This book is full of reasons that explain why Bernie is the anti-establishment candidate who is taking the establishment ( and its media) by surprise month after month as demonstrated by his unshakeable record-breaking grassroots support. The book is authentic and reveals his consistent and common sense policies on a number of issues. Media corporate sponsors and the billionaire tax-dodging elite won't find it settling bedtime reading however.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sanders plea for sanity
Reviewed in Canada on January 12, 2019
This was an easy read, and reveals the thoughts and motivation of Bernie Sanders. He pleads with the American public to get up from their chairs and get involved, and I think the results of the mid-terms prove he and his group had some definite success
