More than 5,000 alumni are members of this group comprising undergraduate alumni who graduated from GW 50 or more years ago and alumni who are 72 years of age or more. Society members currently participate in annual events, including a brunch and VIP seating at Commencement and a reunion celebration during Alumni Weekend.

Commencement and Lunch

Members of the Alumni Emeriti Society are invited to celebrate the graduating class each year at the annual Alumni Emeriti Commencement and Lunch.  The Office of Alumni Relations makes arrangements for you to be attired in a mortarboard and distinctive gold academic gown and transported to and from the National Mall. The day starts at Alumni House with a continental breakfast.  After the ceremony, Alumni Emeriti participants and their guest are invited to a luncheon at Alumni House. Since 1944, when the first veteran of WWII attended on the newly-passed G.I. Bill, GW has been providing financial and logistical resources to help veterans make the transition from combat to classroom. Launched in May 2013, Operation GW VALOR is a comprehensive, collaborative, and unified effort by key GW stakeholders to ensure that the university provides the highest caliber services to military members, veterans, and their families. The Emerging Impact Recognition honors students who embody the spirit of the GWBAA Impact Award. These young people have committed their student experience to providing service to campus, community and their peers. Launched during Alumni Weekend 2008, the GW Latino Alumni Network works with the Office of Alumni Relations to promote alumni connections to GW, provide mentors and role models to current Latino students, and provide philanthropic support to the university.

The Potomac Society is a group of more than 2,000 GW alumni who currently work at the university and have demonstrated a commitment to GW through their employment. The Potomac Society seeks to build a community of alumni that seek to improve the GW experience for students, faculty, and staff; promote GW within their networks; and want to give back to GW.

From humble beginnings as a simple student radio club in 1929 to the present-day multi-format District Radio brand at gwradio.com, WRGW has been at the forefront of the music, news, sports, and college broadcasting scene. WRGW has grown to include over 250 student staff and provides a variety of programming options, from live Colonials Athletics coverage to rock, hip hop, indie, and talk shows, all student produced. The station has been an integral part of the campus culture at GW since its inception as a small group of amateur radio enthusiasts, and continues to define the college radio landscape today.
