365 Day Art Challenge: week 49 and Tulips

Here are my collages for Week 49.  This 365 something project was created in part and hosted by Hanna at i Hanna.

In case you missed them, here are Week 48's collages.  As I'm sure you know by now, I post every Monday morning for the previous week.  All my collages are 4" X 4" (10,16 cm X 10,16 cm).

If you are playing in Hanna's 365 Something project, please let me know and I will be by to see what you are making.  Please let me know if you like any of these.  As always, I am extremely grateful for your continued support of this project and my art.

But wait, please.  Since Bleubeard and I are hosting Art Journal Journey this month,

with our themes of My Favorite Season or 'Tis the Season, we have chosen these springtime tulips

as our Favorite Season today.

It doesn't take a translator

to recognize that this is Dutch for "Welcome."

For this journal page, I began by swiping several colors of dye inkers from a wet baby wipe onto my 110 lb. cardstock.  Next, I outlined the page using a blue watercolor pen.  I then added the two tulip images I found on the cover of a "slick" magazine, which made it really difficult to photograph.  I added the sentiment after I elevated part of the tulips using three stacked pieces of cardboard from a box of crackers.

Bleubeard and I are so happy you chose to join us today and hope to also see you at Art Journal Journey

Here comes Peter Cottontail

You may know by now that Bleubeard and I are hosting Art Journal Journey this month.  Our themes are My Favorite Season or 'Tis the Season.

For this spread we have a favorite season entry for you.  Who doesn't love the adorable Peter Cottontail.  He not only signifies spring, he is often associated with Easter.

"Here comes Peter Cottontail

hopping down the bunny trail."

The background was an image I found in my stash.  When I actually got ready to adhere it to my 110 lb cardstock substrate, I had to wrestle it back from the rambunctious Squiggles, who somehow took a liking to it.  The cotton balls were created using the ends of cotton swabs.

Bleubeard and I are so happy you chose to join us today and hope to also see you (and your art) at Art Journal Journey.

Walking in a winter wonderland

By now you are probably aware that Bleubeard and I are hosting Art Journal Journey this month.  Our themes are My Favorite Season or 'Tis the Season.  I created this page specifically so I could also enter it in Try it on Tuesday's theme, which is Winter WonderlandBecause this spread includes trees, Bleubeard and I are also joining Moo-Mania and More with their Trees theme.

I call this one Walking in a Winter Wonderland,

so that means today my heartfelt

favorite season is winter.

I wrote the sentiment

using a white gel pen.

Trees decked out in white snow

line the background.

For this entry, I began by running a brush filled with water around an area on the calendar page.  The image was in the shape of a heart.  Once sufficiently wet, I tore the heart shape from its original place on the page.  I then backed it with a piece of heavy card stock, also in the shape of a heart that I cut freehand.   I used the remaining piece to write the words using a white gel pen.  For stability, I then backed the assembly with 8.5 X 10 inch (21,59 X 25,4 centimeter) 110 lb card stock.

Bleubeard and I are so happy you chose to join us today and hope to also see you at Art Journal Journey where our themes are Favorite Season or 'Tis the Season, at Try it on Tuesday with their Winter Wonderland theme, and at Moo-Mania and More with their Trees theme.

Lest we forget

Today Bleubeard and I don't want you to ever forget this day in history.  That's why we are sharing this journal page with everyone, as well as Art Journal Journey with the theme 'Tis the Season

This is the season of remembrance.

"Today is a day to remember, to honor, and show respect for those brave men and women who died this day on Pearl Harbor."

"The attack, formally known as the Battle of Pearl Harbor led to the U.S. entering WWII. Since the attack happened without any formal warning, it was later declared a war crime."

"Little did the Japanese know about the Americans. They thought we would not be willing to fight because we were not homogenous, and would not stick together, but run in many separate directions. However, the exact opposite happened."

"A total of 2,335 service men were killed and 1,143 were wounded. All were considered non-combatant because no formal declaration of war had occurred while the attack was in progress."

Please note these statistics are from History. org.   Wikipedia has different stats.  They claim 2,403 Americans died and 1,178 were wounded.

This is the famous photo of the sinking of the U.S.S. Arizona,

which is now the sunken ship that has become the memorial at Pearl Harbor.

The sneak attack sparked outrage among American citizens, the news media, the government, and the world.

The attack took place on Sunday morning, December 7, 1941.  A minimal contingent of soldiers was on duty at the time. Most offices on the base were closed and many servicemen were on leave for the weekend.  Had there been more men on the eight battleships, there would have been even greater loss.

The attack occurred in two waves, with a third wave considered, but not carried out.  The first wave created the greatest damage, with all eight battleships being sunk.  By 1942, six of the eight battleships were back in service.  Only the Arizona, which was never raised from the silt bed where it sunk, and the Utah, which is now also a memorial, were not recommissioned.  The Missouri has been turned into a museum.

Do you want to know more about this battle and what led up to it?  Here is what I wrote last year on December 7.  If you haven't seen the post before, I encourage you to take a few minutes today to do so.

For this journal page, I began by creating a page using various inks and paints I hoped would look like camouflage.  I copied and printed the focal image found on the internet, then added the computer generated words I colored using water soluble crayons.

Bleubeard and I are so happy you chose to visit us today and hope you'll also join us at Art Journal Journey where our themes are Favorite Season or 'Tis the Season. Please don't forget to hug a vet today, share stories you have read or heard about Pearl Harbor, and let others, especially the younger generations, know we must never forget the loss of life that sparked the U.S's entry into another world war.
