- 2 pounds green beans trimmed
- 3 tablespoons margarine
- 1-1/3 cups chestnuts from a jar, halved (if chestnuts are hard to find, substitute almonds)
- 4 shallots sliced
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon pepper
- 2/3 cup dried cranberries
- ¼ cup balsamic vinegar

Instructions
- Cook beans in boiling water until crisp-tender – about 8 minutes.
- Drain and rinse with cold water.
- Melt margarine over medium heat.
- Add the chestnuts (or almonds), shallots, salt and pepper and cook for about 5 minutes.
- Add cranberries and vinegar and cook another 5 minutes.
- Stir in beans and cook 5 minutes more.
