Assemblyman Allen called on the UC Regents to adopt “Principles of Intolerance” to end prejudice against the Jewish community on California campuses
SACRAMENTO – Today, Assemblyman Travis Allen (R-Huntington Beach) commended the UC Regents on adopting a policy condemning “anti-Semitism and other forms of discrimination” on UC campuses. Assemblyman Allen joined many others in the fight against hate speech and discrimination on college campuses during the public comment portion of today’s hearing.
“I commend the UC Regents for this historic vote to end anti-Semitism and discrimination on our college campuses,” said Assemblyman Travis Allen. “Simply put, anti-Semitism, anti-Zionism, and other forms of prejudice have no place in our state, and directly contradict the values of California citizens. The time is now to end the use of false, demonizing and delegitimizing propaganda, and anti-Jewish bigotry against the State of Israel. The UC Regents’ vote that took place today is a strong first step to ending hate speech on our college campuses permanently.”
The UC Regents efforts join a movement across the nation to fight anti-Semitism in the United States. The vote comes a week before the referral of Assembly Bill 1552, authored by Assemblyman Travis Allen and principal co-authored by Assemblyman Matt Dababneh (D-Encino). AB 1552 is the only bipartisan bill in California to end taxpayer funding for the discriminatory Boycott, Divest, and Sanction (BDS) movement against Israel.
