Pimp A Friend Friday: Deborah Batterman

PROJECT_COVER_IMAGE_1._SY300_

Rachel loves her Uncle Jake more than anything. Handsome and mysterious, he fills her with stories, sends postcards and gifts from exotic places. And he’s so much more fun to be with than her parents, who are always fighting. When she learns he’s gay, she keeps it under wraps. And when he gets sick, she doesn’t even tell her best friends. Until she realizes that secrecy does more harm than good. A coming-of-age story framed by the passions of the ’60s and the AIDS crisis of the ‘80s.

Deborah Batterman wrote a book I enjoyed called Shoes Hair Nails, which I found to be intricate and honest. She has a new book titled Just Like February that is being considered for the Kindle Scout Program. I’ll let her explain it herself.

As the publishing world turns, new paradigms evolve that present fresh opportunities for writers.  Call it a leap of faith, but  I’m  testing the waters of reader-powered book publishing via Amazon’s new Kindle Scout program. It works like this: you get to read an excerpt of my novel by following this link.

https://kindlescout.amazon.com/p/3V1FFU3E1VEX8

If you like what you read, and want to read more, you let Amazon know by nominating my book for publication. (If you really like what you read, please share the link in whatever way you share exciting things ;-)   Yes, you can think of it as ‘American Idol’ for book lovers. The novel has already moved into the’hot and trending’ category, so there’s reason for me to feel very hopeful.

Enough interest and Just like February is published by Kindle Press. I get an advance and royalties. And you get to read the finished book.

If you’re interested, please follow the link above and nominate Deborah’s book for publication. And check out her other work. I very much enjoy it. The deadline to vote is December 12.

A Beautiful Review For Apocalyptic Montessa

am + nl

Author T.O. Munro just wrote the most beautiful review for my novella Apocalyptic Montessa and Nuclear Lulu.  It made me smile.

Apocalyptic Montessa is currently out of print, although it is available as an audiobook. But it will soon be re-released by Crystal Lake Publishing, and I can’t wait for that day to come.

Please stop by and read this review. It made my heart sing.

Pimp a Friend Friday: Armand Rosamilia

There are several things I can say about Armand. He has a big heart, for one. He hosts the Arm Cast Podcast, runs Authors Supporting Our Troops, and wrote the very cool, inspired-by-true-events book Chelsea Avenue.

He also has a book in the running for the Kindle Scout Program. I think there is a week left for voting for his book Dirty Deeds. I’ll let him tell you all about it.

I get paid to erase problems. Did your extramarital affair produce an unwanted complication? Family problems? Just want to enjoy your midlife crisis by yourself? That’s where I come in. For a fee I’ll take care of it. A big fee. Only, I’m not going to do what you think. I’m going to get someone away from you and your selfish world.

I’ll make this post short and sweet so you can get to the most important part… voting for my crime thriller so I can sign an Amazon Scout contract!

I won’t bore you with the details but suffice it to say getting a contract with Amazon would be a nice step for me in the right direction. A big step.

Dirty Deeds is a crime thriller, told in first person, and was such a fun book for me to write I’m already working on the sequel regardless of whether or not I get the contract. But I’d really rather have the contract, so…

Voting is simple. Go to the link, read the Dirty Deeds excerpt, and if you like what you’ve read, hit the vote button and keep it locked in until November 20th, when my 30 day run ends. If I get a ton of great votes I get a contract, and YOU get a free eBook copy of the book as a thank you!

A Veterans Day Bus Ride

My son Niko, who has Williams Syndrome, has a few fixations, Washers and dryers, for example. Listening to the same song over and over. Hotels and buses.

IMG_6562

The Yardley clan down at the transit center. Yay!

About six months ago, we promised we’d go on a public bus in November. He’s been looking forward to it for months, and has asked about it several times every day. (Anybody familiar with Williams will be familiar with the constant asking and reassuring about future activities.) Since today was Veterans Day and everybody was home from work and school, we decided it was a wonderful time to spend together as a family and enjoy the safety our military has fought for. Thank you so much for all you’ve done, Veterans. We appreciate it so much.

IMG_6569

Niko checking out the route.

We spent $20 on tickets for all five of us, chose a route that would take us to the airport and back (he loves planes), and piled inside.

IMG_6570

The Las Vegas Bus is a wonder!

The ride down took about 50 minutes. Then we rode escalators and elevators at the airport for another 45 minutes or so until it was time to climb on the return bus. The kids were good that a stranger even stopped me to say how well-behaved they were. That hasn’t happened before. Thanks, kind sir! I’ll take it!

IMG_6576It was an out-of-the-ordinary holiday celebration, but it was something very dear to our family. The kids are already asking when we can do it again. It might be a new, strange Yardley tradition. The Great Veterans Day Bus Ride.

IMG_6585

A new appreciation for the city. It’s different as a passenger.

I hope you enjoyed your holiday and had a chance to be with the people you love. I sure did. :)

Miss Murder’s Easy DIY: Halloween Decoration

IMG_5613

This project will take you about five minutes, quite literally. Ten minutes if little gnomes run off with your bells, which is what happened to me. Kiddos and pets can’t resist bells. Who can?

You will need:

1 Halloween (or Christmas) cookie cutter

2 different colors of ribbon

3-5 bells

IMG_1792Tie a ribbon to each bell. And then tie the ribbons to the cookie cutter. Make sure the bells are hanging at different lengths.

IMG_1789Take your second different ribbon and make a bow.

IMG_1791

Hot glue it to the cookie cutter. And then voila! You’re finished! Hang that baby up!

IMG_1609Simple, easy, cheery, and charming. Happy Halloween, friends. :)

Miss Murder’s DIY: Easy Halloween Monster Craft Tutorial

I should really call this Angry Ginger’s Easy DIY because she’s the one that made these lovely things. They’re so charming!

You will need:

wine glasses (she purchased hers at a dollar store)

spray paint

black felt

a hot glue gun

a permanent marker

scissors

bandages and googly eyes for the mummy

bolts for Frankenstein

jewels for the witch and vampire

Step 1: Spray paint the stems of the glasses and let them dry.

IMG_1619

Step 2: Spray paint the rest of the glass and let dry.

Step 3: Use scissors to cut out felt for hair, vampire widow’s peak, etc.

image2Step 5: Draw the faces on with marker

image4Step 6: Glue on jewels to vampire’s tux and witches hat, or bandages and googly eyes onto the mummy.

That’s it. Six steps. They’re charming, simple decorations that make great gifts. Enjoy!
