That’s what you get from this? You can’t understand why people writing about anti-Chinese racism might be upset about a piece that insinuates they’re engaged in information war, presumably on behalf of the CCP? Seriously?

Which makes the generalised insinuations of your piece even more irresponsible. You accuse people discussing anti-Chinese racism — as I did for a major outlet — of
‘weaponising narratives’ as part of an ‘information war’ conducted by a foreign power. That’s no small charge.

So you’ve written an article saying pieces such as mine were part of a ‘strategy’ (a ‘type of information attack’, no less) but now you say that you weren’t implying that anyone was behind the strategy. How does that make any sense?

You can’t lead with a claim like that and then defend yourself by saying, oh, 'later on I say you’re not necessarily all foreign agents’. Well, you can but it’s an extraordinary way to conduct an argument.

'But what if the talk about anti-China bias is itself part of a strategy to muddy the discussion in Australia and undercut Australia’s ability to defend its sovereignty? What if the accusation of Australian racism is itself a weaponised narrative?'

If you have evidence that writers are somehow in league with the CCP you should publish it. But it’s extraordinary to suggest those taking a political position with which you disagree might be foreign agents — and then trust your readers to sort out whether they are or not.

If you have evidence that I (or anyone else) is receiving orders from Chinese state media you should print it. But it’s pretty extraordinary to publish a blanket implication and then walk it back later in the article with ‘well, not all of them are’.

. @chrizap I wrote a piece on anti-Chinese racism for the Guardian a few weeks back. Are you implying that it was part of a campaign by the Chinese Communist Party? If so, that’s outrageous. If not, how were Fairfax readers supposed to make the distinction?

Thank you for proving my point. As I suspected, you’d quite like sexual freedom to be treated as akin to pedophilia: that is, as a serious crime deserving of punishment and ostracism. Handmaid’s Tale indeed.

A few weeks back, I wrote about the long history of anti-Chinese racism. This SMH piece comes very close of accusing people like me of being in the service of the Chinese government. smh.com.au/world/asia/is-…

Yes, I support sexual freedom, so obviously I oppose those who campaign against it, especially when they say they want to ‘enforce’ their prejudices. And the idea that there is — or could be -- empirical data on what ‘is best for society’ is risible.
