sherlock holmes series 2

It won't be on BBC America until May 2012 but it has landed in the UK. Love that they are doing Hound of the Baskervilles (with the twist being that Baskerville is the name of a military lab of some kind, well played). Have to say the Dr Moriarty character always been the least favourite of mine, wonder how this one plays out. Anyhow, a million clips and trailers out there. A few above.

The Arthur Conan Doyle stories themselves are mostly short 20-pagers. Perfect commuter reading territory. Many free in Amazon's Kindle store or via Gutenberg Project.

sherlock holmes -2010 bbc stylee

Episode 1, part 2/3 below. Jaunty start. Benedict Cumberbatch is Holmes slightly channeling Alan Rickman?? Might as well take from the best. 3 episodes were made, big ratings hit in the UK. More to come maybe.

sherlock

Moffat and Gatiss have written a modern day Sherlock Holmes series (titled Sherlock) for the BBC that will air this Sunday. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. Knee-jerk reaction might be "mistake" but I'm betting they will settle into a groove. Scotsman Steven Moffat is a known quantity in nerdland (saying that lovingly) having written extensively for the revived Dr. Who and also worked on the script of upcoming Tintin.

Snippet interviews w/ Moffat/Gatiss. Some 221B shots too.

victorian undead

Holmes vs zombies. Supposed to be good fun; 6 issues, the last installment comes out next week, from Wildstorm (DC) Comics.

the strange case of the end of civilization as we know it

The Strange Case... is a 54 minute Sherlock-inspired comedy sketch partially written by John Cleese. Some great wordplay especially for the Watson character. Serious 70's BBC budget production though (i.e. no budget) and horrendous American accents (I mean mangled Brooklyn and other) from everyone else involved. Nothing really to do w Sherlock Holmes but Cleese is great, and the titles are timeless. (thx Sally for this.)

happy birthday -sir arthur conan doyle

Hear him talk about the creation of the Sherlock Holmes character via the British Library's Spoken Word series. Serious Edinburgh accent. Morningside area?? Bullet-proof tweed above, awesome. (i know, that 'hear' link is flaky. it worked earlier...)

bookshelf -sherlock holmes

I was Sherlock Holmes for Halloween when 7. Deerstalker hat, tweed cape, and proper calabash/meerschaum pipe. Pops gave me this copy of the complete works around that time. I even wanted to name our son Basil... lost that battle haha. Anyway, the classic Basil Rathbone episodes have a special place for me (though I imagined more of them were set in Scotland, not England, maybe it was all those rainy sundays watching them while we lived in the Borders.)

Long/short am looking forward (with some reservations ... RocknRolla anyone?) to Richie's Sherlock Holmes. As usual with out of copyright works, you can read some of the orginal texts now via The Guttenberg Project. Try A Case of Identity.

Deerstalker related, one of the best live shows I ever saw was Thee Headcoats and Thee Headcoatees, in Edinburgh maybe 10 years ago... Rockabilly goes tweed. Brilliant.
