10E2455: LLBean Boots - Better Than New

Salvaged my teenage LLBean boots from a random box in basement a few months back.

Immediately packed them off for a $39 refurb from LLBean (includes s/h). The lady said it would take 8 weeks. Wrong, took 2 months - to the day! Fantastic... They sure are using some high test CRM up there - when I called she already knew my email address - love it.

New soles sewn on as below. New footbeds, and tan laces. Gifting these to the intern.#betterthannew

Green Mountain Tick Repellent: A friend brews this herself partly using Lemongrass and Cedarwood. Works and smells great. $10.

decoys for decor

If your place is sparse, a row of decoys might seem a little OTT. Pushing it. If your house already is jammed with dust collectors collectables then they are just one more way to start a conversation. Each one has a story; where it was bought/found, who used it, who made it, remember that time when... For extra points you keep the decoys seasonally aligned, that is in the winter you face them to the south. No, not kidding.

You can find them all over but the cork bodied ones from LLBean look and feel great. If you are using these as the manufacturer intended (ie waterfowling), the compressed cork allows them to float even in rough water, but better still they are not absorbant -so won't rot. Last for years. Nice little potted history of the product below.

Duck hunting seson is next month in VT. Full details here, greatest hits above.

A lot of parephernalia associated with the all this. Good excuse to buy a decoy bag...

llbean -muted madras jacket

Two-button stance. Light padding in the shoulders. Single back vent. Half lining. Imported. $119
-via LLBean
Really like darker/muddier madras like this. If you have to have bleeding madras, made in the USA, then O'Connell's have over 30 amazing deadstock options to choose from, $300.

I have a great old one already, but the LLBean might be a way to get on the ladder.

llbean signature -f/w2010

Go to any autumn potluck or community dinner around our way and these sorts of clothes from LLBean Signature F/W2010 would be the uniform. And has been that way for almost 50 years. Saying that lovingly. Looks wearable as hell. A whipcord suit w/ working sleeve buttons and elbowP's (couldn't find a shot of the loden colored one), slightly *ahem* shaggy Shetland sweater and flannel trousers (you had me at "sears..."), plus chamois shirts in that OG fleshy color... sign me up. And the brown LLBean duffel bag -finally. Ok, not the darker brown we know and love but calling the color kindling almost makes up for it... Bunch of ripped-from-the-archive stuff. More in the pipeline as well.

turtlenecks

Plaid shirt and turtleneck. Lived in turtlenecks... we all did. Man those cookies must have been good. Scan of an old polaroid, circa 1979, Vermont. Sis, me, bruv.

llbean plaid shirt

Hidden a bit on their site but if you just got the LLBean catalogue you will spot it. A Forbes Dress tartan flannel shirt. I pretty much hold to the line that "Scotch" is a drink, "Scots" are a people, so I would call this is a Scots Plaid Flannel Shirt... $29. Bosh. Wore the hell out of these as a kid, with a turleneck underneath... yeeaaaa loved that look.
