I love this book. Nowhere else will you find trace elements of Frank O'Hara, Shakespeare, and John Cage in such a heady swirl. A master of humor and pathos, and a grand-poobah of New York School poetics, Berrigan mined traditional subject matter, then turned the formal idea of the sonnet inside-out by collaging his lines via a chance operational method. These poems are tender and bemused hymns of possibility, freeing both form and poet from preexisting conventions.
