MoreWhat is your preferred e-reading platform?
There are the big three for E Ink e-readers: Kindle, Kobo, and Nook. Each offers its own store for e-books, and there are also Google and Apple with their own e-book stores, though you're more likely to use those on Android or iOS tablets. Still, there are more than a few options, where a lot of people choose one and stick with it. I know the vast majority of my purchases are on Amazon's servers, and while I own e-books across many of these, Kindle is still my primary. But what about you? Which e-reading platform is your go-to?
What was your favorite CES 2025 announcement?
I can easily tell you what mine was. It's the announcement for the Lenovo Legion Go S that runs SteamOS. Sure, it may not launch for a couple more months, but the machine looks great, and, more importantly, runs a non-Windows operating system, with Steam's front end that keeps things tidy and easy to use, much like a console. Plus, as SteamOS develops, we could be moving closer towards an OS for desktops, and boy howdy would I love to ditch Windows for good by replacing it with an OS designed to play games. In other words, I'm very happy to see SteamOS moving forward onto third-party hardware with the Legion Go S. But what about you? What CES 2025 announcement has you the most excited about its arrival this year?
PSA: Don't forget to claim your free e-books with Amazon Prime
Amazon Prime members get free Kindle e-books every month with a relatively hidden service called the First Reads program. For January 2025, the company is allowing you to claim two books for free to help get you through those long and cold evenings that kick off the new year. The big-name book for January is a short story by Lee Child, but there are nine other options to choose from. You'll have to claim them through your browser rather than the Kindle app, but it's a small price to pay for two free books. Plus, if you're a Kindle fan, you're used to going through a long process to get books onto your e-reader.
