Mission
Facility
TTCI manages the Federal Railroad Administration's (FRA) Transportation Technology Center (TTC), located just 21 miles northeast of Pueblo, Colorado. TTC is operated under a care, custody, and control contract with the FRA. This 52-square mile, secure and remote site operates with a vast array of specialized laboratories and track. TTC enables isolated testing for all categories of freight and passenger rolling stock, vehicle and track components, and safety devices.

Go to Tracks
There are 48 miles of railroad track available for testing locomotives, vehicles, track components, and signaling devices at the Transportation Technology Center (TTC), Pueblo, Colorado. Specialized tracks are used to evaluate vehicle stability, safety, endurance, reliability, and ride comfort. Using TTC's tracks eliminates the interferences, delays, and safety issues encountered on an operating rail system.

Green Engineering is defined by the US Environmental Protection Agency as "the design, commercialization, and use of processes and products, which are feasible and economical while minimizing risks to human health and the environment." One related effort undertaken by TTCI engineers has focused on gradually automating the train operations at FAST.

Go To Laboratories
TTCI's assets set it apart from other research and testing facilities. One-of-a-kind test machines provide TTCI engineers with the tools to test and evaluate railroad products and/or improvement concepts. Computer models, designed to predict railroad equipment performance, help TTCI provide clients with a look at proposed designs prior to prototype fabrication.

Go To Transportation Security
One way or another, we are all working to assure our security. Rail freight and passenger transportation systems are working around the clock to protect citizens, infrastructure, and services. Sabotage detection and prevention is now a critical arena for research and development.
