Today is the glorious Christmas day, when Jesus was born and presents are opened. The happy spirit of the day inspired my card today. Here is what I come up with.

First, I white heat embossed MFT Simply Snowflakes onto a panel of watercolor paper. I have used the MISTI Stamping Tool to get the exact placement that I wanted. Then, I watercolored the panel using my Schmincke Watercolor Palette. I have used Madder Red Dark, Translucent Orange, Translucent Yellow, May Green, Permanent Green Olive and Prussian Blue.

After that, I added in some shadows to make the snowflakes more dimensional. Of course I had to add splatters of colors and Perfect Pearl solution to add even more texture to the piece. I really LOVE water texture!!!

When the panel was fully dried, I die cut it with SSS Stitched Rectangles Die and then mounted it with foam tape on a SSS Fog card base. The sentiment is from MFT Joyous Christmas Sentiments Stamp Set.

To finish with a blast, I embellished my card with a lot of Pretty Pink Posh sequins – Holiday Shimmer Mix, Winter Sparkle Mix, Sparkling Clear Mix, Metallic Rose Gold 6mm, Lavender Moon 4mm, Sunshine Glow 4mm, Strawberry Burst 4mm and Ballerina Pink 4mm. I went a little crazy on sequins but it’s Christmas!! It actually sparkles so much more in person!

Hand Painted Ornaments Card

Hi friends! Today I have a hand painted holiday card to share with you. I was itching to paint and I wanted to try something relatively easy. I was intimidated to try painting my own ornaments at home because they all have intricate patterns and swirls, maybe next time… LOL

For my painting, I first used a circle die as a guide and drew in two circles on a piece of Arches Watercolor Paper. Then, I drew in the ornaments’ tops. For the painting part, I followed this and this video by Dawn from Wplus9. She is seriously amazing and I love the way she teaches! She makes it really easy to understand.

I have used a recently acquired watercolor palette from Schmincke and I absolutely fell in love with it. The full name of the palette is Schmincke Horadam 48 Half Pan Watercolor Set. This palette is the most expensive palette I’ve ever bought and my wallet bled when I took the plunge. However, I made a promise to myself that I will seriously work towards my art goal so that “justified” my purchase  🙂

Back to my painting, I first used Sepia Brown for the shadows on the bulbs. Then, I painted in the stripes with a paint brush using Translucent Yellow and Madder Red Dark. I further deepened the shadows to create contrast by mixing these colors with browns and grays. For the background, I have used a wash of Phthalo Green. You can see in the photo that my palette is quite messy with dried paints everywhere, but I think it’s beautiful!!  🙂

For the strings, I first drew in a line with a white gel pen, then I drew in a thin line discontinuously using a Copic Multiliner in Sepia. The discontinued lines create the illusion that the strings are shiny. They also add to the delicacy of the painting.

To give the same organic look on my sentiment die cut, I watercolored it with two separate washes of of Madder Red Dark. Finally, I die cut the whole panel with SSS Stitched Rectangles Die and mounted it on SSS Fog card base with foam tape to finish.

Pretty Pink Posh – Birdies in Stocking

Simon Says Stamp – Sending Hugs

Happy Friday!! Today I am popping in to share a “sending hugs” card using Simon Says Stamp supplies. I finally got to play with the beautiful Winter Flowers Stamp Set. This set was designed by Kristina Werner and it was meant for Christmas, but I used it in a more generic way today.

I first white heat embossed the images from the Winter Flowers Stamp Set on a panel of Arches Watercolor Paper. I used this high quality paper today because I will be painting a lot of layers. This paper handles water much better than the Canson XL Watercolor Paper and the Tim Holtz Watercolor Paper, which I use all the time for both ink blending and watercoloring.

I slowly watercolored the flowers, berries and leaves and then followed by the beige/brown background. After the panel was dry, I added in some shadows using some dark browns and grays. Then, of course I had to add some splatters. I have used the same colors I used earlier – red, green and purple. Finally, I also added in more white dot-and-line details for highlights using some white gouache.

Pretty Pink Posh – Birdie Ornaments

Hello friends! Today I have a set of Christmas ornaments to share with you using various stamps and dies from Pretty Pink Posh.

There are various birdie images from Pretty Pink Posh and I thought I could make them into different characters on my ornaments. I am inspired by my friend Melania’s pastel color palette and I wanted to try it on my project, adding my own touches such as twine, ribbon and jingle bells 🙂
