The union representing nurses and other workers at Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children’s Hospital has announced plans to strike in 10 days -- on July 23rd -- after its members rejected a three-year contract offer.

Speaking at the U.S. District Court in Concord on Thursday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced a surge in federal enforcement efforts around synthetic opioids.

Sessions said he's sending an additional prosecutor to ten districts across the country that've been hardest hit by the opioid crisis. New Hampshire is one of them.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has imposed a $100,000 fine on a California investment company for violating pay to play rules meant to prevent political contributions from influencing investment decisions. An executive with the company, Oaktree Capital Management, made a $1,000 contribution to Gina Raimondo when she was running for governor in 2014, but it was refunded a few weeks later.

The Red Sox returned to Fenway Park Monday night after a 7-2 road trip and shut out the Texas Rangers, 5-0, on Steve Pearce’s two-run homer in the first inning, his first at-bat at Fenway Park in a Red Sox uniform, and J.D. Martinez’s three-run shot in the eighth. Eduardo Rodriguez didn’t get out of the sixth inning because of the pitch count but still won his 11thgame against 3 losses. Four relievers preserved the victory, the shutout Boston’s league-leading ninth of the season.

President Donald Trump’s pick for the soon-to-be vacated U.S. Supreme Court seat is drawing criticism from members of Rhode Island’s congressional delegation.

Trump announced D.C. judge Brett Kavanaugh could replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy.
