Hello! I hope your week is off to a great start and that you have lots of stamping time penciled in on your schedule this week! Sarcastically, I think it’s time to start making Christmas Cards! Can you believe it’s March??!!
The great news is that at Freshly Made Sketches we’re starting March off with an awesome sketch by our even more awesome designer, Jennifer Timko (Blog: Stampin on the Fly). Get ready for a sketch that can be used SO MANY ways, and, as we all hope for, it’s very versatile and inspiring. I had two other designs in mind before I settled with the Garden in Bloom and Suite Sentiments for the “main attraction”.
I wanted to try a water coloring technique that Rita Wright shared on her blog, Cards by Rita, and Rita linked back to Wanda a A Blog Called Wanda, however I was unable to find that post so I could link directly to it for you. I hope you do go look at Rita’s design… she’s way better at this than I am! I’m still trying to find out what my water coloring niche is and she’s great at everything!
As usual on my water colored cards, this is “take #2”. The first one was beginning to look like some weird hallucination. I might have to give up water coloring all together. Maybe my type A personality will never let me like water coloring as much as clean, crisp designs.
I hope you are able to find Wanda’s video. This style is done by stamping and then dabbing the stamped image with a wet brush to blend and spread the colors. I used water color paper, and I would definitely recommend using it for this technique. I don’t believe it would work as well with regular card stock.
I love this Easter Sentiment with the beautiful font. My husband, the card critic, has informed me that the flowers on this card should have been Easter Lilies. *Eye Roll* Yeah, he’s right again. However, what he didn’t know (neither did I until I had to make it up) was that these were wild Tiger Lilies and the pointy tips had just been worn off as it was an older breed. Unfortunately for me, one of his first jobs was working at a nursery – the plant kind. He did not buy my “psycho-babble” at all.
Okay, in case you didn’t get the memo: It is now time to go visit Freshly Made Sketches and check out the design team’s creations. While doing that, a light bulb will light up in your brain, and at that time you must go directly to your craft space. Do not stop at GO, do not collect $200 (unless ya can!). Make the most amazing card you’ve ever made and post it in this week’s challenge at FMS. Make it REALLY, REALLY HARD for Jennifer to pick the King or Queen of Clean!
Happy, happy stamping!
