![This #plasticfreejuly it seems even the supermarkets are listening, with @colessupermarkets and @woolworths_au both announcing a plan to phase out single-use plastic bags in their stores. Whilst it's not a perfect solution (thicker, multi-use plastic bags will still be available to purchase at the checkout), it's a step in the right direction that'll hopefully make consumers much more likely to remember their reusable bags before leaving the house. The next step is to have the ban enforced at a state level right across Australia - so far only South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT have done the deed (though Queensland's ban comes into effect next year). We like to think that in an ocean somewhere, turtles are giving each other some cautious (and very slow) high fives...
