 The Kitchen  Windows

Week Two

A morning-glory at my window satisfies me more than the metaphysics of books.

Walt Whitman

I love a clean shiny kitchen window. Even if the view is not the best in the world, it is a view!

Simple Daily Challenge for today’s Momma Olympics: – 100 points

  • Grab you window cleaning tools.
  • Clean the windows with a spring in your step and song in your heart.

Here is a simple recipe for window cleaning in a more natural way.  Add two table spoons of vinegar to a gallon of water, pour into a clean empty spray bottle and BAM, you have an excellent window cleaner. I use microfiber towels to clean our windows as we do not buy newspapers and in a pinch I will use paper towels.

 The Kitchen  Pantry

Week Two

Cleanliness is very important. If you let kids make a total mess in the kitchen and then leave, you’re not really teaching them anything.

Emeril Lagasse

Organize the Kitchen Pantry Fast!

The kitchen pantry can either be a tool that helps with organized kitchen flow or it can be a place of mild stress that keeps us guessing and cursing as we make dinner each night.
Today we are going to tackle the kitchen pantry in three easy steps!

TOSS

Grab a trash can and drag it to the pantry, toss out old stuff, questionable stuff. Donate what you will not use that would be serviceable to a homeless or people in need food pantry.

CLEAN

Take everything out and clean each shelf, make sure to dust first or it will just cause extra work. I use a microfiber cloth to dust and then a damp rag to clean finishing with a dry towel to buff. As long as you clean the pantry every couple of months or so this should be enough to do the trick.

TIDY

Organize the shelves grouping like items together and placing small seasoning packets in a basket or bin so that do not get lost in the shuffle.

This Simple Daily Challenge is worth 100 points in our Momma Olympics!  Woot!

 The Kitchen – The Refrigerator

Week Two

My mom had Julia Child and ‘The Fannie Farmer Cookbook’ on top of the refrigerator,

and she had a small repertoire of French dishes.

Anthony Bourdain

There is something so personal about a refrigerator. It not only houses the foods we love and enjoy, keeping veggies crisp and milk cold it many times holds our children’s art, photos of interesting cars and comics and coupon clippins from the Sunday paper.   It is as unique as the personality of our family. The one common ground that all refrigerators hold is that they get pretty messy on the inside despite how careful we are to wipe up spills as we go.

Today we are tackling the refrigerator!

Let’s Get Started:

Simple Daily Challenge – 100 points!

  1. Empty the all contents of refrigerator/freezer and please throw away the old and icky stuff.
  2. Wipe down shelves with a damp microfiber towel or scrub it with a bit of baking soda and a scratch-proof sponge, then rinse with clean water.
  3. Dry the shelves with a clean cloth.
  4. Replace items in a logical order. (my personal weak spot)
  5. Give the front of the refrigerator a good cleaning with a cleaning product that matches the material on the outside paying particular attention to the handles because they get pretty gross.
  6.  You may need to defrost the freezer, if so then schedule this in on a day you make time for the entire process.
