Me In 30 Seconds:
I’m fired up about healing our broken health care system, one empowered patient and one conscious health care provider at a time.
I’m obsessed with helping patients and health care providers view illness, not from a place of victimhood, but as an opportunity for awakening.
I doctor not just bodies, but souls.
I write pretty much every day and I love it as much as life itself.
I believe that the key to living a long, vital life is an optimistic attitude, the willingness to love expansively and receive love in return from a wide circle of people close to you, engaging in work that lights you up, tapping into Source, allowing your creativity to flow boundlessly, being unapologetically who you really are, moving your body in ways that make you smile, and drinking as much green juice as you can.
I relish helping visionaries find their callings and realize their visions.
I’m inspired by people brave enough to transmute adversity into spiritual growth, vulnerable enough to let their imperfections be witnessed, and courageous enough to keep their hearts open, even when those hearts are at risk of getting hurt.
I’m moved by hiking in redwood forests, skiing in fresh powder, live music of all types, and dancing barefoot.
Stuff That Would Make It On My Resume, If I Had One
I attended Duke University, the University of South Florida, and Northwestern University during my twelve years of medical education before practicing as an OB/GYN physician in a conventional medical practice for eight years. After leaving my medical practice in 2007, I worked at an integrative medicine practice before starting my own mind-body medicine practice. I closed my clinical medicine in 2010 to pursue writing, teaching, and speaking full time.
In 2009, I founded the community blog OwningPink.com, where over 40 inspiring bloggers write about how to be healthy in your relationships, your professional life, your spiritual life, your creative life, your sex life, your financial life, your physical and mental health, and more.
In 2012, I moved my personal blog to LissaRankin.com, where I blog about living and loving fearlessly, how to heal our health care system, and pretty much anything else I feel like writing about.
In 2013, my team launched the Whole Health Medicine Institute to train doctors (and in 2014, nurses, alternative and other health care providers, and life coaches) about mind-body medicine. Faculty members include Martha Beck, Christiane Northrup, Bernie Siegel, Rachel Naomi Remen, Larry Dossey, Bruce Lipton, Steve Sisgold, and more.
In 2013, we also launched HealHealthCareNow.com, where those as passionate about healing health care as I am can unite and let their freak flags fly.
I have written four books – Encaustic Art, What’s Up Down There, New York Times bestseller, Mind Over Medicine, and just released, The Fear Cure and fifth The Anatomy of a Calling.
I love rocking the stage at TEDx events (watch my first TEDx talk here, my second one here, and my third one here), Hay House I Can Do It conferences, health conferences, and pretty much anywhere else people are brave enough to give me a microphone.
I’m a professional artist who paints mostly with beeswax and most recently, acrylic paints (you can see my art here.)
I make a mean raw chocolate, and I’m super grateful you care enough to be here!

Lissa attended Duke University, the University of South Florida, and Northwestern University during her twelve years of medical education before practicing as an OB/GYN physician in a conventional medical practice for eight years in San Diego. In 2007, she left her practice and spent two years realizing that you can quit your job, but you can’t quit your calling. She opened an integrative medicine practice, where she became fascinated with spontaneous remissions and began a sincere study of mind-body medicine that led to her research in Sacred Medicine. Since 2010 she has dedicated her life to writing, teaching, speaking, and researching Sacred Medicine full time. As part of her Sacred Medicine research, Lissa has been traveling around the world, meeting with shamans in Peru, Qigong masters from China, energy healers from Hawaii, electric healers in Bali, and a variety of other mystical healers. Lissa is on a grass roots mission to put the “care” back in health care, to reunite healing and spirituality, and to inspire sacred activists to participate in the transformation of consciousness that is revolutionizing the world with acts of love, compassion, and kindness. She lives in Marin County, California with her Waldorf-educated daughter Siena. She blogs at LissaRankin.com and posts regularly on Facebook.
