Robbins Library Special Collections contain a number of volumes from the personal libraries of William James, Josiah Royce, George Santayana, Hugo Münsterberg, James Haughton Woods, many of them annotated by their former owners. In the case of Josiah Royce, we also have a manuscript draft of Royce's last known writing. In addition to holdings by former members of the department, we have annotated material from the libraries of C. S. Peirce and James Elliot Cabot and a small collection of early printed books dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, including works by Pierre Bayle (formerly owned by C. S. Pierce), Descartes, Kant, and Shaftesbury. We have small holdings of selected dissertations of graduates of the Department. We also hold materials from Edward D.T. Bechtel, an alumnus and generous benefactor of the Department.
