ANSWER Me! magazine lasted only four issues—one a year from 1991-1994. But even back then—long before PC's iron fist began strangling the culture to death in earnest—it caused what one TV report called "a firestorm of controversy." A quarter-century later, it is still considered tremendously influential. Given modern hypersensitivities, this re-release may lead to more wailing and gnashing of teeth than ever.
Among the litany of torrid scandals that erupted in the magazine's wake:
★ A line from the second issue was quoted in a note by a man who shot at the White House in 1994.
★ The third issue was not only blamed for a triple suicide, it may have had an influence on the suicide of Kurt Cobain. It also eerily foreshadowed the death of co-editor Debbie Goad, which is explained in the introductory interview.
★ The fourth issue led to an obscenity trial in Washington State, which the state ultimately lost.
This lavish anthology includes an extended interview with editor and chief author Jim Goad.
