Color Throwdown 354-Celebrate

It's time for another Color Throwdown!  Amy Rohl is our hostess this week with a versatile color combination--green, kraft, and white.  I paired the colors with the current sketch at CAS(e) this Sketch to create a clean and simple masculine birthday design.

Celebrate Your Special Day card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps and dies from My Favorite Things
I used a big, bold word die--"celebrate" from the My Favorite Things Die-namics Celebrate die set--for my focal image.  The word was cut twice--once from white cardstock and once from kraft cardstock.  I pieced the two together, filling in the negative space in the white panel with the kraft die cut.  The seam between the two panels was hidden with a narrow green cardstock strip.  I stamped the "your special day" sentiment from MFT's Birthday Greetings stamp set just beneath the die cut word in green pigment ink. I accented it with a trio of brown enamel dots.  The finished panel was adhered to a green card base to match the stamped sentiment and cardstock strip across the panel.  The background fills in the negative space in the letters in the "celebrate" die cut perfectly.

To play along, just create a paper crafted project using these colors as a starting point and add a direct link to your finished project using the linky tool found at the end of this week's CTD post.  As always, if you don’t have exact color matches, something close works just fine.  Just be sure that the challenge colors are the dominant ones in your project.  And, if you upload your project to an online gallery, use the keyword CTD454.  If you upload your projects on social media, go ahead and use the hashtag #ctd454 and #colorthrowdown.  You can find us on Instagram (and on Facebook!) with the username colorthrowdown.

Before you get started, here’s some inspiration from the talented Color Throwdown team, our August guestie Sheri Gilson, and this week's Guest Star stamper, Kelly Schirmer.

We hope you'll play along!  The LEAD of this challenge will be invited as a Guest Designer in a future challenge!  Please visit the Curtain Call Challenge blog for all the challenge info and deadline.

Hello Friend card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps and dies from Mama Elephant
Here's my take on the inspiration photo.  I went with a potted plant image for my design.  My image from Mama Elephant's Potted Pretties stamp set features a summery strawberry plant.  I colored the image with Copic markers, then cut it out with the matching die.  After using foam tape to adhere the image to a white circle, I matted it on a slightly larger red circle to pick up the red in the fruit.

For the background, I layered a strip of green cardstock on the bottom edge of a light gray cardstock panel.  I adhered a strip of red grid patterned washi tape to the panel just above the green strip.  I adhered the image on top, trimming the circle's edge so it was even with the edge of the pale gray panel.  The "hello friend" sentiment from ME's Mini Messages stamp set was stamped just to the left of the image panel in black ink.  The finished panel was adhered to a darker gray card base.

Hello There

Here's my card for the current Fusion challenge.  I mixed elements from the sketch with elements from the inspiration photo (the script hello and the gold) to put together this design.

Hello There card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps and dies from My Favorite Things
I built my card on a pale peachy-pink card base that's similar to the color of one of the cards in the inspiration photo.  The top of the card base is covered with an angled patterned paper panel that features the word "hello" repeatedly along with some hearts.  It's hard to see in the photo, but the pink shade of one of the hearts is pretty close to the color of the card base.  I edged the angled panel with a narrow strip of gold to set it off from the solid card base and to bring in a bit more sparkly gold.

The rest of the sparkly gold comes from the dimensional die cut "hello" positioned near the bottom of the card base and surrounded with a trio of gold sequins.   The word was cut from gold paper using a die from My Favorite Things, then layered on to a matching craft foam die cut to stand out.  After I put the word in place, the cardfront seemed a bit empty, so I stamped the word "there" beneath the die cut in black ink, which seemed to do the trick!

Materials Used:
More Essential Sentiments stamp set, Insulation Pink cardstock, Die-namics Thanks & Hello dies (My Favorite Things); Memento Tuxedo Black ink (Tsukineko/IMAGINE Crafts); gold paper (Target); Pen Pals 6x6 paper pad (Pink Paislee); craft foam

Happy Birthday, My Friend

Here's my card for this week's My Favorite Things Wednesday Sketch challenge.  I used the layout to make a sweet birthday design featuring the Beary Special Birthday stamp set.

Happy Birthday, My Friend card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps and dies from My Favorite Things
My focal image is the set's balloon and gift-toting bear.  I colored him up with Copic markers, then cut him out with the matching die.  I used foam tape to adhere him inside an aqua oval frame set on a light blue card base.  The set's "happy birthday, my friend" sentiment was stamped on an orange fishtail flag strip that I tucked just beneath the bear's feet.  To bring in a bit more orange, I wrapped the right side of the cardfront with a strip of orange striped washi tape.  A trio of aqua enamel dots arranged around the oval frame completed the design.

Materials Used:
Beary Special Birthday stamp set, Sno Cone and Orange Fizz cardstock, Die-namics Beary Special Birthday, Pierced Oval STAX, and Essential Fishtail Sentiment Strip dies (My Favorite Things); Memento Tuxedo Black ink (Tsukineko/IMAGINE Crafts); markers (Copic); Swimming Pool Sprinkles enamel dots (Doodlebug Design); washi tape; foam tape

Mad for Plaid Birthday

Happy Birthday card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps and dies from WPlus9
Here's my card for the current sketch at Freshly Made Sketches.  I used patterned paper and die cuts to put the design together quickly.  I picked a blue and gray plaid patterned paper to cover most of the cardfront.  The diagonal lines made it easy to cut the paper straight when I trimmed out the middle section!  I adhered the pieces to a coordinating light blue card base--without adding something contrasting along the patterned paper edges, which I should have done . . .

For the sentiment, I used a die from the WPlus9 Happy Trio die set to cut the word "happy" from gray cardstock and craft foam.  After layering the die cut pieces, I adhered them to the cardfront.  The word "birthday" from the Whole Lotta Happy set was stamped just beneath the dimensional word in Versafine's Onyx Black ink.  It's still my favorite for getting crisp, dark sentiments.

 Materials Used:
Whole Lotta Happy stamp set, Happy Trio dies (WPlus9); Versafine Onyx Black ink (Tsukineko/IMAGINE Crafts); Spring Rain cardstock (Papertrey Ink); Steel Grey cardstock (My Favorite Things); Perfectly Plaid Winter 6x6 paper pad (Lawn Fawn); white matte enamel dots (Eyelet Outlet)

Popping By to Say Thank You

Here's my card for this month's SugarPea Designs Mix It Up challenge.  I combined elements of the sketch with elements from the inspiration photo, including the color scheme and the popcorn theme.

The sweet girlie from the SugarPea Designs What's Poppin'? set was perfect for the challenge!  I colored the image up with Copic markers, then cut it out with the matching die.  I usually struggle with coloring hair, but I'm not too unhappy with how the hair on this image turned out, so I'll call it a win!  The finished image was adhered to a blue gingham panel using foam tape.  I used one of the banners from the Celebrate Party Banner Duo die set to cut a navy blue banner to string across the top of the card.  The set's "popping by to say thank you" sentiment was stamped to the left of the image in black ink.  The finished panel was adhered to a coordinating navy card base.

Materials Used:
What's Poppin'? stamp set, What's Poppin'? and Celebrate Party Banner Duo dies (SugarPea Designs); Memento Tuxedo Black ink (Tsukineko/IMAGINE Crafts); markers (Copic); Night of Navy cardstock (Stampin' Up!); Spring Rain patterned paper (Papertrey Ink); foam tape

The Challenge 93-Hello Friend

The Challenge is back with a new papercrafting challenge to inspire you! This week we're featuring a keyword challenge.  Pick one word from the list to use as inspiration or use as many as you want.  I think I managed to hit each and every one of the key words in my card!

Hello Friend card-designed by Lori Tecler/Inking Aloud-stamps and dies from Paper SmoochesI used a monochromatic pink color scheme along with a butterfly image from the Paper Smooches Flap Happy stamp set. The butterfly image was stamped using the "rock 'n roll" technique to get the two-toned look.  After stamping the image using the two shades of pink ink, I cut out the image using the matching die from the Butterflies 2 set.  I added a body using three pink pearls.

For the background, I placed a pair of layered pink circles on a pale pink cardstock panel.  I used one of the PS Stitches dies to cut a flight trail into the panel, including on to the circles.  Once the trail was cut, I added the butterfly to the circle using foam tape for dimension.  The set's script "hello" sentiment was stamped above the stitched trail in dark pink ink, then the printed "friend" from the Swanky Snowdudes set was stamped beneath it. The finished panel was adhered to a dark pink card base.

Check out what the rest of the talented team at The Challenge has created based this week's keyword challenge.  Here's where to find them:

Materials Used:
Flap Happy and Swanky Snowdudes stamp sets, Butterflies 2 and Stitched dies (Paper Smooches); Memento Angel Pink and Rose Bud inks (Tsukineko/IMAGINE Crafts); Raspberry Fizz and Sweet Blush cardstock (Papertrey Ink); circle dies (Spellbinders); pink self-adhesive pearls; foam tape
