George Paul, small forward on the Oklahoma City Thunder, worked with Nike and Sony to create the PG-2 "PlayStation" sneakers, one of the nerdiest, tech-infused sneakers ever created. 

Designed by Tony Hardman, the same lead designer behind Paul's first sneaker, the PG-1, the new model (in case it wasn't already completely obvious) is inspired by a PlayStation 4 and its DualShock 4 controller.

Paul says he wanted to make a PlayStation-themed sneaker because he considers himself "one of the biggest gamers in the NBA" and he's taken his gaming with him everywhere, ever since he received a PlayStation 2 for Christmas as kid. Read more...

Donald Trump's White House sunk to a new level of petty on Saturday, as the United States government shutdown.

Callers dialing into the publicly available White House comments line — at 202.456.1111 — are greeted with a recorded away message. An unrecognizable female voice politely explains that the government is shut down because Democrats are holding it "hostage."

The new Prince Philip has arrived.

Paul Bettany is "being lined up" to play the famously gaffe-prone royal in Netflix's The Crown, Variety reported on Saturday. 

He would replace Matt Smith, who portrayed a younger version of Philip in the show's first two seasons.

Bettany would join Olivia Colman and Helena Bonham Carter — set to play Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Margaret, respectively — in the cast. At least a portion of Season 3 is set in the 1970s, and will include, among other things, the breakup of Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon. Apple's answer to the Amazon Echo and Google Home smart speakers, the HomePod, is almost ready for launch.

After missing its release last year, the $350 smart speaker has now been approved for sale by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which means Apple will probably start selling it very soon.

Following its delayed launch, Apple said it "needed a little more time" to get HomePod ready for customers.

Apple said HomePod would start shipping the U.S., UK, and Australia "in early 2018". Well, it's early 2018, and everyone's still waiting for the Siri-powered speaker to show up.  Read more...

Fiona the hippo, a celebrity, will probably not be making an appearance at her first birthday party. But that's okay. It's still a very good party.

Per zoo policy, hippos are only allowed to venture outdoors in temperatures above 50 degrees. So although it's pretty warm for mid-February in Cincinnati — high 40s — Fiona and her mom, Bibi, will likely spend party day (Saturday) in their cozy indoor habitat.

Celebrating Fiona is always a good idea, though, so zoo patrons are already out in droves to sign her birthday card, eat cake and ice cream, adorn themselves with temporary Fiona tattoos, take photos in a Fiona-themed photobooth, and participate in other "hippo themed activities."  Read more...

Trivia buffs now have a new way to prepare for games of HQ.

Called Practice HQ Trivia, the recently released Android app challenges players to answer multiple choice trivia questions similar to what you might see in HQ and other quiz games. There are no timers, goofy animations, or charismatic hosts, but you do get an unending supply of trivia questions without any gimmicks.

It's an incredibly barebones app — consisting of just trivia questions and slightly intrusive ads that appear between questions when you get an answer wrong. Lucasfilm dropped the first mid-season 4 trailer for Rebels and we've already rewatched it a dozen times. There's so much to dissect and look forward to when the final episodes air Feb. 19 on Disney XD.

Jedi Master Kanan Jarrus cuts off his ponytail alien and girlfriend Captain Hera Syndulla hates it. Anakin Skywalker shows up as hologram. Yoda drops knowledge on Ezra Bridger! Some kind of wannabe Porg-ish bird thing!

Whether you like him or not, there's no denying a simple fact about Michael Wolff: The man knows his audience.

The Fire and Fury author suggested during a Friday appearance on HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher that Donald Trump is having an extramarital affair now, while serving as president. It's a sensational allegation to be sure, and one that Wolff himself admits he cannot prove.

After months of condemning pervasive sexual harassment and assault, we've arrived at the #MeToo backlash. 

Back in October, when the allegations against Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey made it relatively easy to find your place on the battlefield, few could've predicted that a young woman's account of a painful sexual encounter with comedian and self-proclaimed feminist Aziz Ansari would eventually create a deep schism in the conversation about #MeToo.

It's the fall of 2019 and America is paralyzed.

Scientists say the fossilized remains of a brittle star that lived 435 million years ago belong to a new species. 

The fossil was named Crepidosoma doyleii, after the paleontologist who discovered it. Eamon Doyle was a Ph.D. student when he discovered the remains of the thumbnail-sized creature in the late 1980s, embedded in a layer of fossils on a hillside in the Maam Valley in Ireland. 

Though this species of brittle star (which are closely related to starfish) first developed nearly half a billion years ago, its modern day descendants are remarkably similar.  

Some people get a little nutty when there's a winter storm looming. Not Shirley Nash. 

During a report on an upcoming snowstorm a reporter for WCCB out of Charlotte, North Carolina interviewed the local resident about her plans for the snowy weekend.

"We'll probably sit around and cook some soups and eat bread and desserts and just get all fat and sassy," Nash said.

Tom Petty's family confirmed the musician's death was caused by an accidental drug overdose in a statement on Friday.

News broke on Oct. 2 last year that the iconic guitarist had suffered from cardiac arrest in the early morning hours in his home in Malibu. Petty was then rushed to UCLA Medical Center, but was unable to be revived. He was 66-years-old.

Friday's letter, which was posted to the official Facebook page for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers as well as Petty's website, went into great detail of the events which unfolded to cause Petty's death. Read more...

This weekend marks a year since millions of nasty women (and men) marched in protest following the inauguration of Donald J. Trump. 

March On, a new organization branching out from the Women's March movement, wants to take a "bottom up" approach to the resistance.

Founded by people who organized and led sister Women's March events around the country, March On is using this weekend's anniversary to launch "Operation Marching Orders," a tech-driven campaign to crowdsource an agenda for political change. That agenda will put into words what the movement is fighting for in advance of the 2018 midterm elections. It may also become a set of demands or expectations of political candidates and elected officials.   Read more...

It's the year 2018 and every advancement in our society has been stifled by the consumption of Tide Pods. 

The desire to eat a laundry pod—specifically Tide's detergent product, packaged in plastic dissolvable packets—has taken over the internet for better or for worse. It's popped up on pizzas and been recreated as edible donuts, and tweets regarding the consumption of the pods have gone viral countless of times. YouTube even started pulling videos of people eating them (please, for the love of laundry, don't eat Tide Pods). 

Brand awareness has probably never been higher for Tide than it is today, but the whole idea that "there's no such thing as bad publicity" doesn't quite work in the age of the internet anymore—and whether or not the 7-year old product will survive is unknown. Well Get Out fans, we've got some bad news — and some good news.

First, let's start with the bad news: In a preview for his CBS Sunday Morning interview with Tracy Smith, the comedian and Get Out director announced he was done with acting.

"That’s the idea... Daniel Day-Lewis and I are both out," he said, referring to the legendary actor claiming that The Phantom Thread would (allegedly) be his last film. "Acting is just nowhere near as fun for me as directing."

To be fair, though, if Peele really was modeling his acting retirement off of Day-Lewis, that'd mean we'd see him in about half a dozen more roles claiming to be his "final" one. Read more...

Here's some great news just in time for the weekend: someone's created a site that makes browsing through Netflix so much easier.

Reddit user CrazedEli, aka Ville Salminen, announced his creation Flixable on the r/television subreddit Friday. It's basically a search engine for Netflix and it's worth checking out; it could save you hours of wasted time.

Flixable shows what's popular, what's original, and what's leaving Netflix. Users can browse by genre and IMDb rating, and filter their searches based on release date. 

Salminen said he built the site as a hobby to learn more about programming. He noticed that many Netflix users on Reddit were frustrated by the streaming service's unintuitive browsing options, pointing to one popular complaint in particular. Read more...

President Donald has always been a popular subject on Reddit's r/PhotoshopBattles. But since you can't look anywhere without seeing a photo of his face somewhere, the appeal wore off a bit.

But on Friday, Redditor suri09 submitted an older image from a stack of German newspapers from last May. 

The fold of the paper and stack make it look as though Trump had a massive mouth, and was the perfect subject for some good ol' Photoshopping.

Over a half million Twitter users are about to be on the receiving end of an inbox surprise. 

No, not the news of an unexpected verification. Nor something more prosaic, such as their unwitting participation in a new feature test group. Rather, Twitter will be dropping a little email truth bomb: You got played by a Russian troll army. 

In a Friday blog post, the social media giant said it plans to inform 677,775 people who, over the course of the 2016 presidential "election period," followed, liked, or retweeted accounts "potentially" connected to the now infamous Internet Research Agency. Read more...

When someone suffers a seizure in real life, it can be an intense, scary experience. When someone suffers a seizure during a VR chat, it can be even more terrifying. 

This is the exact scenario that Sam Raiffeisen, otherwise known as YouTuber Rogue Shadow, found himself in recently. While playing VRChat, a multiplayer app where people can hang out with bizarre avatars and take part in simple games, one of the users suffered a seizure. 

"We're so used to technology enabling us to do more, but in this case it was the opposite," Raiffeisen said over email. "The main feature of VR is immersion, and the way this person seemed to be right in front of us in this agonizing state gave the impression that there must be something we could do, that's what my instinct kept telling me, but the logical answer was we couldn't do anything."
