When D2Interieurs started renovating this young family’s home, the Modern Classic Nantucket Shingle Style home was elegant but dated. On the upside, the home had plenty to work with; set on two private acres, the serene wooded setting includes manicured lawns, perennial flowerbeds, stone pathways and rock gardens. All bedrooms are en suite, there are four fireplaces, and French doors open to porches, decks and patios from every room. The goal, according to D2’s founder Denise Davies, was “to take this traditional looking home and create a modern and open floor plan so that the house had a better flow. The home had to appeal to their modern aesthetic but also be comfortable and function for their two young boys.” So D2 took down walls and completely renovated the home.

Eschewing nautical themes, the design team focused on creating a modern home for the young family moving from the Upper West Side of NYC to Irvington, NY. “We started with a totally clean slate. Everything in the home is new which was so much fun and allowed us to be so creative with texture and color!” Nantucket’s favorite color, blue, does make many appearances throughout the home, as do neutrals and subtle coral contrasts.

In the kitchen, Denise selected gorgeous textured wood cabinets in a gray wash and Macauba stone countertops. A feature wall was created using a commercial range with a custom boxed hood overhead and floating shelves flanking each side. The opposite side of the kitchen is open to the family room and dining room, providing a huge space for entertaining or family time that would have been impossible in the client’s former home. Denise recalls, “When we installed this house, the clients were still living in NYC. They entered into a fully designed and accessorized home and they were literally crying and saying ‘I can’t believe you made our dreams come true!’”

When it comes to feminine style inspiration, the first place to look is Julia Engel — the gal behind Gal Meets Glam. This outfit, which was photographed on the travel blogger’s recent sojourn in France, is perfect for those of us who want to stay cool while still looking sophisticated. While Julia paired her look with embroidered loafers, we have had our eye on these pink mules for awhile and had to find an outfit to pair them with. Finally, when it comes to makeup in the summer, we believe less is more! Sunscreen and bold brow (which you can achieve with our favorite brow filler) is all you need.

Because of its location in the mountains of Jerusalem, Israel, where the landscape feels like it could be in Italy or France, this home for a family of 7 (that’s right, 5 kids!) was designed with a Mediterranean feel in mind. From the very first stages, designer Merav Sade was part of the design process, working with the architectural firm to build the home from scratch. Along with the fact that the family owned a manufacturing company that can make pretty much anything, this gave Merav a lot of opportunities to run with any idea that fit the concept.

The family’s personal style is all about comfort and convenience. While they did want to make sure that every family member could enjoy privacy in their respective rooms, they wanted to make sure that the shared communal spaces also be well designed and inviting for those moments when the whole family comes together. Worn materials and textures in the kitchen and living room reflect the countryside surrounding them. This home is located in a “moshav” — a type of settlement which resembles a village — where each resident owns a plot of land for dwelling and another plot for agricultural cultivation. With its heritage and location in mind, the design included lots of natural materials.

Merav also made a few bold choices to bring character to the design. She decided to tile the long hallway in the home with pretty blue tiles and design a quirky iron bookcase — manufactured by her client — for above the desk. We love the stylish relaxed details of the throw pillows, lounge seating and accessories that make the home feel not just well-designed by also cozy. The homeowners fell in love with the space and the house — they enjoy both living in it and hosting friends and family,

You might already be familiar with Jessie De Lowe through her gorgeous lifestyle and wellness blog How You Glow. As a yoga instructor and therapist, her home philosophy is all about creating a space you feel comfortable in. “We have little control over the outside world, yet our home environment is almost entirely up to us,” she said. When she found out she was pregnant she wanted to convert her lackluster guest bedroom into a nursery. She decided to use Laurel & Wolf, an online design service to complete the task, with Ryen Conley as her personal designer.

“The room is a bit narrow, so figuring out how to make it feel spacious was tough,” she explained. Ryen suggested a completely different configuration for the room, placing the Sparrow Crib by Oeuf (her favorite piece) in front of the window and the bed lengthwise in the back of the room. “It gave us so much more space, completely opening up the room.”

Since Jessie wanted a bright, happy and natural nursery, Ryen kept the foundation neutral. “Having a neutral color palette will allow you to re-decorate the room as the needs of your baby, toddler and young child evolve over time,” she advised. Bright colored global inspired accessories were then added to add a little boho vibe to the space. The copper and rope 3-tier hanging basket normally reserved for kitchen use was an ingenious repurposed piece to store anything from diapers to toys. Wooden accents, indigo textiles, and woven wall hangings bring in a natural boho look to the clean room.

“We are lucky that the nursery gets the most sunshine out of any room in the house. One side is all windows, so the trees outside add an uplifting dose of nature and greenery,” Jessie shared. “It truly feels so happy in there, there is definitely some magic glow in the air!”

What’s a better way to celebrate a full moon in summer than a gathering of boss ladies enjoying dinner outside on a farm? For Chelsea Sonksen, who runs Bossladies, the first business magazine for creative, entrepreneurial women, it was a natural fit. “I went to my first Full Moon Supper when I was eighteen at Salt Water Farm in Maine. I remember thinking it was such a magical, almost witchy, ritual of dining outdoors with such attention to the moon. At the farm, it was about acknowledging the crop that had been produced during that moon cycle. When I decided to host one here in Los Angeles, I was focused on holding a space of gratitude for the cycle that has just passed – both in business and in life – and creating space and energy for the next chapter.”

With the goal of an event that felt “natural yet refined and rustic with an understated elegance,” Chelsea brought together a stellar team and hosted the event at the family farm of her friend, Britt Alwerud, the founder of Handlr. The highlight for Chelsea? “After dinner we cozied up on pillows and fur rugs around the fire pit with mezcal and talked about everything under the sun – or moon, rather. It was this beautiful moment where women who had been strangers a few hours before opened up like old friends.”

The next full moon is coming up August 7, so get inspired for your own celebration in the slideshow!

Designer Willa Ford knows how to make her clients very happy. Case in point, this closet/office combo in Southern California — or as we’d call it, every girl’s absolute dream room. She had worked with the clients before on the rest of their home. “We knew at some point we wanted to do an addition,” Willa recalls. “It had to be off the master and we had a tricky roof line to deal with but our builders Hartman and Baldwin did an incredible job engineering it seamlessly.”

The addition could only be 500 square feet, so the initial concept of joining the two spaces into a beautiful retreat was mostly practical, but ended up being a lot of fun. Willa and her team displayed the client’s beautiful handbag collection in a floating wall to divide the space. “Instead of using glass in floating wall for the purse area, I used a marbled acrylic that looks like agate. It allows enough light to flow to the closet but is such an interesting material that’s lightweight and easier to clean,” she explains.

In the closet area is a custom built-in white oak credenza. This is one of Willa’s favorite pieces. She says, “I wanted it to look organic and book end the wood grains so it felt more like art rather than storage. Once again, doing something more original takes patience but it came out so beautiful and special.”

As for the neon in the mirror? “The idea came to me that I wanted something from her husband to personalize the space. He’s a musician and artist and he chose the lyrics he wrote about her — I don’t want to go anywhere without you. I thought it was so fitting that everyday as she got dressed, she could see that sweet reminder from him.” An installation like this can be tricky, however! Installing it on the mirror took a few attempts, but they eventually made it so wire reflection would be minimal and the focus could be on the quote itself. “It was an ambitious idea but I love doing challenging things and working with vendors to make it come to life,” Willa says.

Of course, we had to ask about keeping a space like this organized and functional, yet still visually stunning. “Less is more,” Willa laughs. “I know it’s hard but keep it to a minimum. If you aren’t using it, stop storing it. I always tell myself somebody else needs it and to let it go. Then it’s easier to organize and see everything you have.” And for the pieces that you do have, the designer suggests color coordination and getting creative. “No matter what size your closet is, you can find fun ways to display things like hats, scarves, and shoes so that they look more like wall art and less like stuff!”

Don’t get us wrong, there’s plenty of work. From discovering new trends to networking with top designers, the days are full and productive. But, you are in Las Vegas after all, so there are endless opportunities to enjoy an evening cocktail, a gourmet dinner, maybe even a show on the strip. This Market, which is July 30 through August 3, promises to be one of the best yet. Here are a few things we’re really looking forward to:

— First and foremost, #LVMKT is offering a record 4,000+ lines (its largest ever number of resources!), with exclusive collections across all categories, including major launches for the bedding industry and continued expansion of gift, home décor and furniture resources in both permanent showrooms and temporary exhibits. Make sure to wear your walking shoes!

— One of our favorite stops is Salon West, a boutique destination that offers a fresh, high-style selection of better home décor, lighting, home textiles, accents, art, and accessories. Be sure to check out a few of our favorite Salon West discoveries in the slideshow.

— Best of the West is THE panel to see. It’s sure to be a lively discussion about design, new trends, favorite paint colors, pet peeves, and oh-so-much-more. (Click through the slideshow to learn more about each speaker.)

— If that panel doesn’t fit your schedule, there are a lot of great options daily. We’ve got our eye on Ahead of the Curve (moderated by LUXE Interiors and featuring Benjamin Johnston, Julia Buckingham, Ron Woodson & Jaime Rummerfield) and Meet the Makers (a lunch seminar focused on the maker movement).

Recently we ran two different stories styled by Julia Green (here and here.) Both immediately captured our attention due to the bold colors and irreverent fun they contain. We had to learn more about Julia and her business, Greenhouse Interiors. In addition to styling commercial and editorial shoots, she runs an interior design agency helping emerging artists break into the interior business themselves and has a half dozen other creative pursuits. Meet Julia Green.

You wear a LOT of hats. How do you describe what you do?
Oh, I do! Metaphorically and literally! (I do love a good hat!) But in terms of work, I do have my fingers in a few pies.

It all started when I had a chance encounter with a photographer from Vogue, who was buying a couch from me. I was in the pharmaceutical industry at the time and heavily pregnant with my second child. When he arrived to collect the couch, he asked me who I ‘styled’ for. I had no idea there was such a job as a stylist…so I had no idea what he was talking about. When he found out what I did for work, he told me I was wasting my time and I should be a stylist. He gave me his card and told me to call him once I had the baby. So I did, and have not running from job to job ever since. One thing has led to another. Every corner I turn, I see opportunity.

So in my sourcing for styling, I saw gaps and started and interiors agency, Greenhouse Interiors. I now represent around 30 emerging artists and sell, market, and run the PR for their brands. It’s the most rewarding thing ever, and they are all like family to me. Our creative team is unique and tight. I honestly would walk over hot coals for all of them.

The styling work varies from magazines, to brands and ad campaigns. Then I run styling workshops all over the country, and they are fabulous as I get to meet so many likeminded people that share my passion. I have also made a number of TV appearances and work on corporate videos. Finally I write most of my own copy to accompany my work with a couple of regular columns. So its super varied, no two days are ever the same, and although my head is permanently spinning, every single day I count my lucky stars to be doing what I love.

Even if it wasn’t your career path originally, it sounds like your home was showcasing your eye for design. How did that interest first get started?
From the age of 3, I had drawn houses and had the best creative kids’ room in the street. This was all testament to my gorgeous mum, my creative idol. She made our house a home, and one that everyone always talked about. So I guess I was exposed to it early, but didn’t make the leap until 38! It’s never too late!

What is something that has inspired you lately?
Actually, my mum has always been a constant source of inspiration to me. It started with the creative stuff as a kid. I remember coming home from school to find our lounge room covered in tin foil, and the couches had been covered in hot pink corduroy. Mum was dancing to Blondie in her leopard leotard. I just laughed. But 2 weeks ago, she was in a horrific accident that saw her pinned under a garbage truck and lose her leg. Her determination, spirit, positivity, acceptance and grace in the hardest of times has made me feel completely inspired, as I believe all of these qualities in life are what separates the good from the great. Applying these skills in life and business are the game changers. Sitting by her bed in hospital has far outweighed the trips to Italy, or art exhibitions. She is made of the good stuff, and it has to come from deep within.
