Olion Villa AA

fancy — Sat, 15 Jul 2017 06:34:15 PDT

The single house “olion” is situated in an olive grove with olive trees planted in the beginning of the 16th century, in Thassos island. The L shaped residence, with its functional volumes distinctly separated, unfolds in two levels. The ground floor comprises the unified space of the sitting area and the kitchen, a wc and two bedrooms. The first floor contains the master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom.
The austere lines of the building contrasting its organic environment, creates a landscape of relaxation and well-being.
Internal viewpoints and views are elements of the site displayed through a transparent and whitewashed interior, completing the special relationship between building and landscape.
The colour white, wood, large openings and the water element are used in order to enhance the architectural concept, creating clean surfaces and an environment that harmoniously embodies a bohemian luxury.
In a continuation of the interior, several semi-outdoor spaces, transitional or not, constitute an important living area characterised by its immediacy of the olive grove and the water.
All outdoor activities take place around the swimming pool, with signalling and lighting elements made of local earthy materials. Internally, earthy hues, natural materials, unified clean surfaces and ethnic objects contribute to the spatial personality, while keepingmits aesthetic purity intact.

House in Paço de Arcos

fancy — Tue, 11 Jul 2017 06:55:05 PDT

Located at Alto do Lagoal in PaÁo de Arcos, a neighborhood of Lisbon facing the sea, this house has been built on a sloping site and proposes as main strategy an arrangement of several solids in order to attenuate the overall mass due to the functional program requested by the client.
This arrangement of different solids and voids, uses large plain surfaces and some in-between tensioned spaces to let light draw or reflect on the objects, emphasizing geometry and proposing a changeable reading of form and space during the day.

Wood-clad house

fancy — Mon, 10 Jul 2017 06:43:02 PDT

Japanese architect Hiroto Kawaguchi in collaboration with Kohei Yukawa built a family house overlooking the picturesque Japanese landscape. There were several aims while constructing: first of all, create three different spaces – the parent’s house, the children’s house and ‘everyone’s house’. While keeping the central space open for everyone of the house, both the parents’ and the children’s houses stay open and connected. Second, the house should provide the views of the clear blue skies as well as the cherry blossom trees around it.
The result was called Newtown, and it’s a residence that emits the sense of ‘living in the landscape’ due to the surrounding series of house-like volumes. ‘Everyone’s house’ is a continuous space both inside and out, and has varying floors with differing meanings to each level. The hallway is a continuous space that can act as either a playground for the children, a study room for the family, or become a living room.
The inner décor is done in Japanese minimalist style, which has already become traditional for this country. Most of the spaces are covered with light-colored wood, there is some upholstered furniture but not much. Such clean interiors don’t distract attention from the landscape and from communicating with each other.

House on a plot of 36.95 square meters

fancy — Sat, 08 Jul 2017 06:18:28 PDT

With the world’s increasing population, our major cities are becoming more and more densely populated. Japan is one of the countries which faces problems caused by it’s great population and limited space. That is why Fujiwarramuro Architects has created a house on a plot of only 36.95 square meters in Nada, Japan. The project architects Shintaro Fujiwara and Yoshio Muro used an incredibly smart layout to make the limited space a functional residence. The house uses light and efficient utilization of space to make the narrow house look more spacious and prevent the residents from feeling boxed-in. Pictures of the house can be seen below.

Sci-fi style desert house

fancy — Fri, 07 Jul 2017 07:09:48 PDT

From an aerial perspective, it looks like an exoskeletal creature trapped amidst desert rocks. Which would make sense if you didn’t come close to realize it’s actually a house. “The whole idea of organic architecture is that you leave the site better off than you found it,” says Kendrick Bangs Kellogg. Safe to say the architect may have succeeded in leaving that impression behind but organic or not, the home is reminiscent of a sci-fi lair inside out.
Owned by Jay Doolittle, who started building the house in 1987 with his wife, Bev, the home has interior and exterior waterfalls adding to its unusual lair-scape besides 26 concrete piers, each supported by bedrock beneath the house. Situated on 10 acres, it has ponds and a spa, and windows set at unconventional angles to fill in the irregular gaps. Rising from the floor, some windows continue without interruption into the ceiling. Streaming in ample sunlight, they help accentuate an array of one-of-a-kind objects, all handmade by John Vugrin.

Expansive windows welcome the wonderful views in, but this lovely lakeside setting is enjoyed twofold form the home’s outdoor living areas – the plain view, and from the home’s windows and doors of reflective acrylic that mirrors the trees and water. A glass solarium echoes the roofline of the house, and is rotated 20 degrees from the main structure, creating a nook for a triangular lounge pool that abuts the house, and a lap pool which extends to the boathouse. Both inside and outside the house, rich Massaranduba Brazilian hardwood gives it a luxury look while maintaining the home’s earthy appeal. A Second-storey patio boasts a lush garden with a walkout from inside.
