Prelude to A Song of Fire & Ice

2,567 words

A Song of Ice and Fire (ASOIAF), better known for its TV counterpart Game of Thrones, became a pop culture phenomenon late in the last decade. It has since garnered a worldwide fan base and a cult of die-hard fans that seek clues and dream up theories of the story’s arc and plots. Of course, this isn’t the first time medieval fantasy has swept the modern world by storm. Read more …

In Defense of Losers, 2

1,669 words

Aedon Cassiel’s excellent Counter-Currents article “In Defense of Losers” made me think a lot about the nature of dissident political movements in general, and white ethno-nationalism in particular.

One of Cassiel’s points, made in the second half of his article, was that the more intelligent or successful whites—winners, presumably—tend to insulate themselves from the negative effects of racial diversity Read more …

The Politics of the Good Samaritan

Aimé Morot, The Good Samaritan, 1880

2,312 words

We all know the parable of the Good Samaritan: the story of the foreigner willing to go out of his way to save a stranger. It is a favorite story of particularly leftist Christians, who like to use it as a bludgeon against conservative insularity and preference for the family and the nation over strangers.

The actual meaning of the story, however, is not at all how it is interpreted in popular culture. Indeed, there is good reason to believe that this false interpretation belies the worship of an un-Christian, and more political kind of God.  Read more …

2,446 words

Giant
Directed by George Stevens
Starring Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson, and James Dean
1956

Giant is filmed in the beautiful but desolate wildlands near Marfa, Texas[1] by the excellent director George Stevens (1904 – 1976), who also directed the award-winning movie Shane (1953). Giant is based on a book of the same name by Jewish author, Edna Ferber (1885–1968).  Read more …

Is Jesus a Myth?

Isis with the infant Horus, faience, Ptolemaic period

3,069 words

I’ve spent most of my time at Counter-Currents focusing on issues that unite us rather than those that divide us. This hasn’t been out of any tepid desire to avoid controversy: I really do think the issues that unite us are far more important than those on which our community is split. Thus, I’ve been hesitant to risk sowing discord over side issues where we need unity more than ever.

But the truth of our side’s take on the issues that unite us—if you ask me—is obvious, and this just doesn’t always lend itself to interesting conversation. Read more …

Viking Supermen

2,272 words

Viking — the word itself still conjures up the stereotypical image of bloodthirsty blonde barbarians, whose rage can only be sated by acts of pillage and rapine. Fortunately, this dated historical perspective has been somewhat revised, and establishment historians now tacitly acknowledge that Norse civilization was much more complex than previously thought, and a lot less one-dimensional. The Question of Legality (1950)

3,544 words

Translated by Simona Draghici

The Reverend Oratorian Father Laberthonnière, who died in 1932, left behind the voluminous work of a lifetime, which is being edited by his friend Louis Canet. Between 1933 and 1948, six impressive volumes were published. Quite recently, another book of his was added to them, and which is of particular interest to us, namely, a Critique of the Notion of the Sovereignty of the Law.[1] Read more …

Remembering Carl Schmitt:
July 11, 1888–April 7, 1985

SchmittKoenen924 words

Carl Schmitt was born on July 11, 1888 in Plettenberg, Westphalia, Germany — where he died on April 7, 1985, at the age of 96. The son of a Roman Catholic small businessman, Carl Schmitt studied law in Berlin, Munich, and Strasbourg, graduating and taking his state exams in Strasbourg in 1915. In 1916, he earned his habilitation in Strasbourg, qualifying him to be a law professor. He taught at business schools and universities in Munich, Greifswald, Bonn, Berlin, and Cologne.

No, John, Let’s Talk About Race

2,911 words

Here’s a dictum I have read now and again on the internet: “an organization that isn’t explicitly anti-Left will eventually be swallowed up by the Left.” Here’s another I am making up on the fly (although I am sure others have said it many times before): “an organization that isn’t explicitly anti-nonwhite will eventually be swallowed up by nonwhites.”  Read more …

The Brexit Precedent

2,388 words

Direct democracy is usually not favored by those whose priority is stability. An appeal to the voters to decide on specific issues has the virtue of cutting short party division on the issue in question but is notorious for exacerbating old cross-party divisions. The first referendum in Britain was in 1973 and the first nationwide referendum in 1975. Read more …

Architecture & Morality:
The Fall of Grenfell Tower

1,659 words

Facts are important, but stories are more important. Facts are isolated data that can easily be forgotten, but stories coalesce to form the infrastructure of our worldview. The stories that we learn inform our worldview and our worldview filters the stories that we hear in an ongoing feedback loop. This is why it’s so important to control the narrative.

When Grenfell Tower went up in flames on the morning of 14th June, the narrative practically wrote itself. Read more …

Courtesy to Women

2,984 words

If a great and powerful ruler is riding his horse, and he comes upon a woman crossing the road, should he continue riding, or should he stop? If he continues riding, his horse may knock her over. If he stops, he will be acknowledging that she has rights that he is obliged to respect, despite his power.

The answer to this question in European societies is that the powerful ruler should stop. The answer in traditional Muslim societies appears to have been that he should continue riding.  Read more …

Originally, I had planned for this essay to be a response to Jack Donovan’s still relatively recent essay, “Why I Am Not a White Nationalist.” However, I’ve decided that this essay would work better if thought of as an extended discussion of a couple of the topics raised by Donovan’s essay, rather than as another open letter response aimed at Donovan himself. Alien: Covenant:
An Anti-Semitic Allegory

2,213 words

Alien: Covenant is a masterfully crafted film from an experienced and subtle director. If you haven’t already seen it, I recommend this movie, as it has plenty to offer, ranging from gorgeous and eerie landscapes to White Nationalist dog-whistles. Much of the movie is shot with physical sets and props, giving a grungy, grimy, authentic feel to the cinematography. The spacesuits, xenomorphs, post-apocalyptic landscapes and crashed or ill-fated landers are all built on real sets and the raw solidity of it bleeds through. Read more …
