Selection of staff is normally made on a competitive basis.
AUC recruits staff on fixed-term, temporary basis or on a regular basis as when the need arises. Staff are grouped into two broad categories, Professional and General Service staff categories.
Elected Officials (Group 1)
Professional Staff (Group II)
This category constitutes staff members responsible, among other things, for conceiving, planning,
managing, supervising, monitoring, drafting and evaluating departmental activities.
These comprise of technical staff
who are responsible for, among other things, developing, implementing and supervising programme activities and staff members
with specialized functions, such as revising, translating, interpreting, proof-reading, précis-writing and evaluating materials.
Political and Special Appointees
General Service Staff (Group IV)
The General Service Staff category comprises of two groups
First Category (GSA)
Administrative, Clerical, Maintenance and Paramedical.
Second Category (GSB)
An Auxiliary to the first category and includes general service staff members responsible among other things for performing routine duties of maintenance.
Other category
Staff members on Short-term Contracts, Field Mission, Project and consultants.
These are appointments made in the first instance on a fixed-term contract for a period of three (3) years, the first twelve (12) months of which shall be considered probationary period and thereafter for renewable periods every two years subject to performance.
These are appointments made by the Organization to Staff Members who have satisfactorily completed five (5) years of service as Regular Staff. The Organization shall ensure that the number of Continuing Staff Members shall not exceed fifty-one percent (51%) of the total number of regular staff of the Organization for each staff category taking into account the Staff Member country quotas.
These are appointments made for a period not exceeding two years but not less than a year with terms and conditions of service specified in their contracts in accordance with AU Polity on recruitment.
These are appointments made for a period not exceeding one year but less than three (3) months with terms and conditions of service specified in the contract in accordance with AU Policy on recruitment.
These are contracts for a period not exceeding three (3) months with terms and
conditions of service specified in the contracts in accordance with AU Policy on recruitment.
These are contracts of a limited duration and are renewable as and when necessary but not conferring on a staff member any full time commitment during its duration. The terms and conditions of service specified in the contracts in accordance with AU Policy on recruitment.
These are appointments made by Elected Officials for a duration not exceeding their term of office. The Political Appointee shall possess adequate knowledge of the working of the Union.
First Category (GSA), these include Administrative, clerical, maintenance and paramedical staff.
Second Category (GSB),This is an auxiliary to the First category. They are responsible for performing routine duties of maintenance.

From the logon page select Forgot password.
Provide the E-mail you used to register and click Send Password
Access your E-mail the password will be sent to you via E-mail, Copy and paste the new password you will then be prompted to provide the new password.
Qn: What is the maximum size of attachments that we can upload ?
Please ensure your documents that you want to upload are less than 2MB.
Qn: Where can I get the complete user guide for this system ?
AU Careers is African Union Commision main vacancy application portal, in order to be able to apply for a position all potential applicants will need to create a PHP database Record where they will enter among others your personal information, current and previous education and employment details.
From the provided information AUC recruitment team will match the data against the currently applied for position to see if you meet the requirements. It is advised that you completely enter your data as partial data may lead to disqualification. No. Being an Organization of sovereign states, its resources are allocated only to programmes which have been officially approved by its members. However, there are several ways Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) can collaborate with the AU on its activities.

The AU offers no general scholarship or student exchange programme.
