    Mordechai Gebirtig, 1877-1942, cabinet-maker, great Yiddish poet and songwriter of prewar and wartime Poland. Newly translated “Our Town is Burning” (Undzer Shtetl Brent) was used as a song of defiance during the Holocaust, though written in 1936.
