    I think they are getting a raw deal from the press. Virtually every article I have seen online about this announcement is headlined "Flickr Slashes Free Accounts". They should have been titled "Flickr Now Has a Future". Say what you want about Smugmug but they are still here.

    Yep, that’s me. I was lucky to be exposed to tech and coding at a young age. Inspired a lifelong love of invention. I hope the new Amazon Future Engineer program does the same for some kids today.

    Anyone know if this is open to the public? Or would I need an invite? Bought a Not-A-Flamethrower, Fire Extinguisher, and Boring Hat if that helps. (+ Telsas, Powerwall, stock, etc). Very curious about the tech and the future impact on our world, would love to see. /cc

    I *love* The Internet Archive and have for ages. They're almost certainly covered by our "Institutions For Good Are Exempt" policy, but just in case, I just donated the next 100 years of Flickr Pro for them. Hopefully this is easier.

    Actually, more than 97% of Free accounts are under 1,000 photos. The changes we announced today are mostly about enhancing Flickr Pro. Less than 3% of Flickr Free accounts, who chew up a huge amount of storage & costs that others must bear, are asked to make a decision.

    Most users are probably well under the 1TB limit but over the 1,000. I highly doubt it is costing them to keep the old ones around. My suggestion would just be to lock those accounts for further uploads but not delete historic ones. Maybe there are some "abusive" users though.
