Someone impersonating former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko tricked me and my team into a Teams call using a clumsy but convincing deep fake. It all started credibly, then he started talking about taking Russian oligarchs off the sanctions list and something seemed off.

The Canadian government rarely uses the Magnitsky Act to sanction human rights abusers. For some reason they don’t want to repeat Sergei Magnitsky’s name. Instead they use the SEMA 1992 Act. has a legislative solution: rename SEMA to Magnitsky. Brilliant

I've yet to meet any uncorrupted person from a country neighboring Russia who thought Russia had an iota of "soft power". Aside from in Western comparative literature departments, the sole "soft power" Russia has had in the past 30 years has been cash.
