problems with LARGE vm on centos6-wks10 ... any recommendation? by _pardus_ in vmware

[–]Mikecom32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why bother with Centos? ESXi is free, so you'll recognize an immediate cost savings, stability and performance improvements aside.

(I know everybody is supposed to have esx, but how bad is it really, for just running a single vm?)

It's bad. Use the type 1 hypervisor. The performance jump alone makes it worth the switch, and the stability increase is a fantastic bonus.

Or am I just completely crazy in using a hosted product for running large VMs on servers?

You are completely crazy :)

If your reluctance to switch is because of a lack of ESXi knowledge, most people here would be happy to help. It's honestly way easier to manage, scale, and support, even without paying a cent to VMware.

Rack mount/Server cabinets by Hojpoj2 in msp

[–]Mikecom32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Techdata/Ingram Micro should both carry them if memory serves.

Ignore the crazy list price. I think we were getting these for around $700 for a full 42U rack.

Rack mount/Server cabinets by Hojpoj2 in msp

[–]Mikecom32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's really nothing to a rack. It's a standard box to put things in. Personally, I recommend APC Netshelters for standard 42U racks. I'd also recommend a UPS and PDU for most installations.

Most decent servers come with toolless rails that clip into the rack. There's really nothing to racking up hardware.

I noticed you mentioned electrical companies. You talking about doing network runs?

After trading my GT-R in for an i8.... 1yr - 10k miles later follow up by ThatOfficeMaxGuy in cars

[–]Mikecom32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The guys below did a great job of describing the LCI.

As far as the "I15" part, for those not familiar with BMWs, each BMW model has a chassis code. This is an internal designation that is linked to the model number you're more familiar with. Most (all?) manufacturers do this.

Here is a fairly comprehensive list of BMW chassis codes from 1965 to present.

From what I've experienced, BMW isn't insanely secretive about pre-production info. There is an "official" BMW insider on Bimmerpost that will somewhat confirm/deny rumors from time to time, and comment on renders.

There's also a wealth of information available about dealer ordering systems and pricing, as well as production information (what various production codes mean in the ordering system), and ways to track your car through the production process.

It's been really refreshing to see a company support their enthusiasts.

Generally I would agree, but this isn't some random jagoff speculating on production information. It's from a long running (since late 2013) thread on Bimmerpost that has been continuously updated by someone with inside access. The information is limited (generally chassis production timelines along with engine revision information), but reliable.

To my knowledge, it has yet to have incorrect information.

  • I15 i8 Roadster is real, although no SOP is available yet.
  • i8 LCI SOP 03/18

(SOP = Start Of Production)

This is from some info leaked by someone who has access to inside information. It's been dead nuts accurate for literally every date across the entire model lineup so far, so I'd be shocked if it was wrong.

Guys, I need a reality check. by [deleted] in sysadmin

Generally if you see a wage quoted in the US, it is pre-tax.

Also, the effective tax rate for someone making $23/hr is less than half of what you are taxed.
