Welcome to the recommendations megathread.

This thread exists as a place to ask for recommendations for a VPN that meets your particular needs, whether than be one with an exit node in a particular country, the cheapest VPN, a VPN that works with a specific service, et cetera.

We strongly recommend that you do take the time to do research and at least check the VPN Comparison Chart

NOTE: If you are making a suggestion of a VPN service, please give a good explanation as to why it would suit OP's needs, if you are just going to give a "use X" type response we will assume you are a shill and remove the post

Any posts asking for recommendations outside of this megathread will be deleted.

All top level comments in this thread need to be requests. Posts with unsolicited recommendations will be removed.

When I used OpenVPN on my Windows desktop I always changed my DNS settings in Windows to my VPN provider's DNS servers.

Now that I've moved OpenVPN to my router I did the equivalent, and set the DNS servers there too, and my desktop makes DNS requests to the router.

But I got a bit confused about this today, wouldn't you want the DNS requests made through the VPN?

I used Pihole for a while, and had to make it bypass the VPN, otherwise there'd be connection issues. Something like, OpenVPN needs to make DNS lookup > can't find it and disconnects > Pihole can no longer access internet > OpenVPN can't reconnect. So maybe running DNS through a VPN isn't ideal.

Maybe it doesn't matter if you're using your VPN provider's DNS server? Or maybe I should be looking at DNSSEC?

hi i'm just bit confused on this situation and wanted to ask people around. first i play this private server game where it requires user to get verified using discord and restricted 2 accounts per your ip address. thought i found a loophole using vpn can allow me to create more accounts but after that i was banned even the account i didnt use vpn to create. thus i went on to local coffee shop, friends/family place, library to create account using different ip address without vpn but they still manages to find out its me and doesn't allow the verfication.

if it isn't strictly the ip address, i thought could be my mac address of the computer so i changed it but it still knows that its me.

the question i want to ask is

  1. how does one know if i am using vpn to sign up

  2. even if i did not use vpn to sign up, how do they manage to know that its me when i am using different legit ip address

  3. is there a way fool/trick discord to think that its a different person so i can get verified?

Hello r/VPN, I cannot find the answer to this question anywhere on the internet... My partner and I both use VPNs for work when we work from home. Both get around 30Mbps Down and 10Mbps Up through VPN. Our ISP advertised speed that we pay for is 100DL and 10UL. Will increasing my internet speeds (the next tiers are 200DL/10UL and 500DL/50UL) increase our VPN speeds? Or is the VPN an absolute bottleneck?

I use MacSentry VPN on my Windows 10 laptop and iPhone. Recently I’m using it to watch videos and I’m noticing that I can’t get a good quality, even 540p, when streaming from my laptop whilst using my iPhone I get 720p without a problem. I thought initially it was a problem with the provider but now I see that it may be something on my configuration.

Is there any settings that might increase the speed on my laptop? Impossible to watch TV holding my phone for more than 30 minutes.

I am planning to get a VPN to stream TV channels from my home country, I just have 2 questions about speed... First of all, how fast does the VPN need to be? I would be streaming on a reasonably large TV (not a PC or laptop screen)

Also, does my own internet speed affect the streaming? I have a 30MBs fiber but my ISP is trying to get me to upgrade...
