A year ago I was 120 pounds (now I’m 137), skinny, dating a guy who would was very much attracted to fit/thicker girls. He would always talk about how that body type is best and never complimented mine, mainly told me that I would look great if I worked out (though he never did). It really messed with my self esteem, sometimes he wouldn’t answer my calls or messages for days, while I noticed he was on social media every hour liking and commenting on women’s pages who’s bodies fit his ideal. I felt ugly. I decided to break things off with him to get rid of the negativity. I wanted to look my best, but for me, not for him. I wanted to start getting strong. So I started researching how to gain weight, slowly, and what to eat, workouts to do, I did a whole 180. A lot of info on the internet is about LOSING weight, so it was hard to figure out how to start. But this subreddit has given me some of the best advice. Not only are so many of you friendly, but you’re blunt and a lot of you have so much knowledge that not many people care to talk about. Without this subreddit, I would’ve never made it this far. I’m still progressing but I never thought I would ever hear anyone refer to me as “strong”. Thank y’all so much. It’s been 9 months and I’m still progressing!
Hey gainers. Today is Success Sunday!
This is a place to post something that you accomplished this week, or any personal triumphs, and get encouragement/motivation from your fellow users. Some examples:
This week I set a personal record on my bench press of 150 lbs!
I was struggling to meet my daily calories for a while, but I finally was able to reach my goal on Friday!
One of my friends complimented me on the size of my arms
This week I ripped my favorite pair of shorts -- it was awesome.
We encourage you all to post any triumph -- big or small.
Been on a big caloric surplus for weeks now, 2700 calories (172cm 69kg) but haven't gained a single gram. I don't know what's wrong with me, but at this point I'll just keep adding calories. I'm already at 300+g of carbs so it would be hard to furtherly increase them without eating pizza everyday, so I was planning to throw in some more fats to add more calories. Of course I won't drink olive oil straight from the bottle but stuff like cheese, walnuts, peanut butter, whole milk...
Good idea or dumb?
Hi, was anyone here skinny fat and overcame it and became, “thick”? Ive lost 33kg last year and my body is disgustingly thin. ( i had a lot of stress which lead to it, in working on getting better ) I want my old body back. I want my old ass, tits and everything else back, But ofc my stomach stayed. That’s the part I want to get rid of. I have a little stomach which I desperately want to get rid of. The problem is, the rest of my body is skinny :( what can I do?
Hello guys... i was able to do in may around 13 chinups, i was very active fitness wise... then i had state exams and you know i was sitting at home learning all day but i still tried to do some workout.. maybe 1 a week and was able to do 11 chin ups till end of july then the exams were in the 21 st of august, and on 23 august went to workout i was able to do 9 chinups.. (i was fine with this since i was not working out) so i did a back training and had a painful muscle soreness for 5 days after that i went down to try and was only able to do 4 chin ups... so i said i need rest, today it is 9 days since 23rd and i still cant do more than 5 chin ups ?... Can someone explain why i lost significant amount of strengh in 9 days ???
PS. Why i focus on chin ups ? bcz it is a discipline i have to do in my physical exams.
I’m a teenager and I tried to buy some creatine from Walmart but the woman stopped me and said I needed an ID. Do I need to be at least 18 to use creatine?
I was on vacation for 1.5 months. Did some training during the break, but not a lot of low rep strength training. When I came back, I did a 2 day fast and weighed in at 160lbs. I also gauged I may have lost about 20% strength, so I lifted 20% less on my first week back.
Noe it's been 1.5 months. I've gained 10lbs (170lbs now) and my lifts are basically just where they were at before I started my vacation. I'm actually still slightly weaker on low rep work (less reps but same weight) and slightly stronger on high rep work (slightly more weight, like +5, on higher rep work). Should I be concerned I gained a lot of weight but didn't really see much strength gains, at least in terms of exceeding my pre-vacation maxes?
