Good day to you all here at /r/assholedesign. It's the middle of the year and sub is in a bit of disrepair. Here's what's up with the sub right now:
Here is our "Common reposts" album. | Here is our Hanlon's Razor showcase. Familiarise yourself and don't post from either. Anything in the Hanlon's Razor album is not asshole design. Note that it's not comprehensive, either.
/u/Aegislayer and /u/Feldma are the newest additions to our moderator team. We'll be adding another two shortly, so if you have an application already submitted, don't worry. Nobody is out of the running. We're still using that list. If you have yet to apply and would like to moderate, please fill out our application here!.
The mod team here is immensely proud because we now have offshoot subreddits!
/r/Clickshaming is a fantastic subreddit focusing on clickshaming: The act of guilt or shaming a person for choosing an option such as an opt-out or decline option. It's a great place. Check it out or [insert guilt trip here].
/r/AntiAssholeDesign is a subreddit that focuses on exact opposite of what we have here. They promote all the great design decisions that are just elegant or beautiful, but also make a great experience for the user.
Here's to a great rest of the year! Once again, consider the comments section of this thread a chance to talk about the sub. What are we doing right and wrong? What should and should not be considered asshole design?
It’s a great sub. Check it out sometime. But this is r/assholedesign and I feel like I speak for a lot of people when I say that I’m tired of all the posts that are just manufacturers making a mistake. This sub is for malicious and purposeful design elements.

Because nothing comes before profit, especially not the consumer.
G1: We're not limited to programming. Asshole design goes beyond the computer screen. Some of our best posts have been from non-technical stuff.
G2: You can post positive things, too! Informational videos demonstrating malicious techniques, resources for combating assholedesign, etc. are all completely acceptable.
G3: Satire and Lampshade Hanging is acceptable if tagged appropriately. *Satire is ridicule of asshole design techniques, and should be tagged under the "Satire" flair. Lampshade Hanging is subversion of asshole design techniques and should be tagged under "Lampshading".
G4: Bots & novelty accounts are subject to arbitrary bans. Some users have issued concerns regarding certain bots and their use as a constructive part of Reddit. Some bots might be banned, others may be allowed to stay. This rule will be enforced on a case-by case basis.
