I do web development and cybersecurity, and just happen to specialize in WordPress. (By choice!) What can I say, it’s the #1 CMS on the web for a reason. 🙂 I run a small firm in the San Diego area. My team and I focus on anti-spam, speed-optimization, website security, custom WordPress development (plugins, themes, sites), and along with a few other areas. I’ve also been developing WordPress plugins (and everything else) for about a decade. One you might have heard of is WP-SpamShield.

WordPress Origin Story

I got involved with WordPress over a decade ago with version 2.0. I was heading the web design team at a small West Coast ad agency at the time. Things have come a long way since then.

I’m a firm believer that WordPress is the single best CMS out there, and it’s been awesome watching it’s global market share grow, to the point where over 25% of the web is powered by it. It’s also been great to watch PHP develop and grow, increasing in functionality, security, efficiency and speed over the years.

I do a lot of WordPress plugin development, including FOSS plugins hosted here on WordPress.org, as well as custom plugins for our clients. (We do a lot of custom WordPress development for clients, including custom plugins, themes, security hardening/consulting, etc.)

Going back to my early days in web development in the mid-90’s, I have never been a fan of spam. It wastes people’s time and takes away from their lives and businesses. It’s also a security threat. Even back in the 1990’s, as I began to investigate early black hat techniques and help clients protect against them, it became clear that anti-spam and security were tightly related, and that’s only been increasing over time. Stats show spam takes a huge chunk out of the global economy. That’s why the WP-SpamShield anti-spam plugin is a project I spend a lot of time on, and really believe in. I truly hope that we can make a positive impact in some small way.

Security has always a focus for me, but these days it’s my main focus.

Debugging WordPress code has become a hobby of sorts, and it’s gotten to the point where I read WordPress core code for fun. 🙂
