My college experience was similar. There are considerable efforts to change these (mainly US based). Work from people like Redish and Finkelstein is worth reading

Perhaps. I meet amazing teachers all the time who would be deffo up for the change, though. Of course the whole thing would need to be properly financed and informed by pedagogy

Indeed. But the application process does not need to be solely exams based. Other factors can be considered too

Universities own the CAO that admits students based on the Leaving Cert. If studies claim the Leaving is a poor way to prepare our students for college then why is ok to use it to admit them. Let’s change the way we admit students which may, in turn, drive reform of the Leaving
