again, they seem to literally be afraid of Iran's technological development. other countries being targeted now too. sad to see science being weaponized like this. silly in the age of the web.

think it was broader than that; chemistry and some engineering too. And those bans didn't just apply to Iranians; Iranian dual nationals who had never set foot in Iran were banned too. US Govt is now apparently banning Chinese students from studying robotics for more than 1 yr

Several European universities did exactly the same under Obama's nuclear sanctions. They were literally afraid that may technologically develop in a way that they did not deem fit (specifically barring Iranian students from certain courses).

This beats Trump's "Who's Brian Hook?" retort to Macron. (Hook had spent months on talking to E3/EU to supposedly "save" the JCPOA by imposing extensions to restrictions while also targeting 's missiles and regional policy. Trump later called this "that little game".)

Would venture add that Trump's withdrawal appears to essentially have put him on the same page as a major chunk of global public opinion versus the DC echo chamber.

Would've been a lot more credible if he wasn't already slated to step down in 6 weeks.

Is there ever this much outrage in D.C. when U.S. troops invade another country as there is when they end their occupation?

Seems so. Iran is moving towards voluntary oil-for-food program. Saddam did so without nuclear capability and after total military defeat.

If true, increasingly hard to see Germany as a credible partner of - let alone counterpart. The lesson is clear: Europeans bend when bullied. Khamenei will certainly take note.

Rubio inadvertently parrots Khamenei's reasoning for 's regional interventions: "t’s better to fight them in Syria than fight them here."

Certainly a lot of chutzpah. But not as much as FDD, which has spent years on trying to collapse 's economy and now producing reports about rising poverty.

Warmest wishes to my fellow Iranians and all others across the world who are gathering with loved ones tonight to celebrate —the Winter Solstice. May our planet soon witness the beauty of peace and empathy—and less coercion and hypocrisy. یلدا مبارک

Mattis was part of the White House’s attempts to downplay CIA evidence linking Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman to the murder of writer Jamal —- he claimed there was “no smoking gun”. Please spare me the “Mattis stands up for US values” takes.

Mattis, lifelong & hawkish military man, didn’t resign over Charlottesville or over family separations or over the use of the military as props during the midterms. He resigned over the withdrawal of US forces from an unauthorized war. To quote his soon-to-be former boss: ‘Sad!’

Notable that House Democrats' opening salvo is about humanitarian exemptions, not challenging the overall Iran policy (yet?)
