That's trickier. If the error is indicated as you type it risks getting in the way of the key echo as I'm typing, and if you trigger it as focus moves off the field you don't know about it at all. Using aria-invalid works, if it's set to true until the correct format of...

A form with a button that's disabled until the form can be submitted. The error option is like trying to push a door open and finding it's locked, it has less affordance than if the door had a "locked/keep out" notice on it.

I agree many people take longer than others to get ready in the morning, for many different reasons. I just found it strange that you called out white straight men as the exception, especially given factors like disability, age, not being a morning person etc. apply to everyone.
