It was humbling to visit the battlefield of the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, the most costly battle in American military history. Our visit to Suresnes American Cemetery on Veterans Day provided another opportunity to honor the immense sacrifice of so many Americans a century ago.

100 years ago, in a railroad car outside Compiègne, France, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the Allies signed an armistice agreement with Germany. The armistice was the precursor to the Treaty of Versailles, which ended the war in 1919.
