Really hope the Democratic Leadership step up right now - in solidarity with - progressive superstars who have been under relentless attack from the right-wing. Silence is no longer an option. cc

I mean it sounds like we’re kind of on the same page then ... you’re allowing that at least one of the things she said was problematic, but that the hate campaign being directed against her in bad faith is odious.

I didn’t say I was more offended by her comments than Israel’s crimes against humanity.

So I can follow your argument — you’re saying she was right to apologize the first time, but not the second?

Ask the person who said, “Anti-Semitism is real and I am grateful for Jewish allies and colleagues who are educating me on the painful history of anti-Semitic tropes.”

If by “doing this,” you mean Eli using the occasion of the president’s hate campaign to needlessly take a swing at Jews who were legitimately offended by her comments, then yes, that appears to have happened.

Yeah, hearing anti-Semites on the right complain about far milder anti-Semitism on the left is annoying in the extreme. I’m not even sure they know what they’re accusing people of.

She apologized for the second comment as well. (Which was great!) Then she made the third comment. That’s the “kept” part.

Then, while under heightened scrutiny for those things, she stated baldly that support for Israel was “allegiance to a region country.” A lot of Jews, including me, read that as the dual loyalty canard. Ironically, that same canard is being used against her! Life is strange.

Sure, she said that Israel had “hypnotized” the world. She apologized for that. Then she implied that lobbying money was the primary driver behind US support for Israel. That was more borderline, but she apologized for it anyway.

You’re right, being Muslim and black, and a Democrat, created a disproportionate response. She didn’t deserve a fraction of the opprobrium she got. But as you note, by her own apology, she admitted that she’d spoken offensively. Why erase that?

She did, and the fact that Trump is a bigger and far more dangerous anti-Semite than she is, and should be occupying more of our attention on the issue, doesn’t change that. Logic, how does it work.
