They're not our allies and they're not great. And there is not going to be a global coalition because most governments oppose your policy. Have a nice trip

Unfortunate. Media tend to have inconsistent coverage on the impact on Yemenis who face double-suffering (war & ban) & yet show tremendous resilience. I worked so so hard on this story. After so many rejections, I am glad it's published now.

Jackson Diehl at WaPo says Trump needs to do "something" in , clearly means invasion though he refuses to say so. No discussion about costs of doing "something." Just irresponsible.

Every 'how did we get here?' story regarding Iran should begin with: May 8, 2018 -- Trump announced US withdrawal from Iran nuclear deal Nov. 5, 2018 -- Trump re-imposed all sanctions targeting Iran Nov. 5, 2018-present -- Trump has imposed additional sanctions on Iran

"Diplomacy with the United States is impossible because there is a party fundamentally opposed to honoring past agreements" is far more telling about the United States than anyone else.

i'm going to lose my mind tweeting this but sanctions alone did not force Iran to compromise with original nuclear deal. enrichment guarantee, sanctions relief, and Iran's own non-returnable technological advances were the tree major factors.

Trump aims to impose more sanctions on Iran today. Iran’s economy is being crippled by more than 1,000 US sanctions, and Iranian officials say US is waging economic war on their nation. Trump withdrew from nuclear deal that was working. What will Iran do?

imagine thinking the lesson of the forever war is "convince family members to enlist for a tax cut" and not 17+ years of continuous war is bad

There is a fundamental principle of the international relations which states that any government endorses the commitments taken by its predecessor. Without it, there can’t be any stable and predictable international life. “The continuity of the state” we call it in French.

the implicit recommendation by the US point man Iran is that Iran should only make a deal with a US president who plans on staying in power for a long, long time. I see...

Right. It's the go-to line for people asserting that Iran is "on the march" throughout the region. It exaggerates their influence for purposes of fear-mongering, and ignores that local actors work w/Iran out of their own interests
