Adding to an ongoing list of required key skills for DevRelers: - Ability to explain something without making the other person feel stupid - Deep understanding that your experience isn't the only valid way and curiosity about other approaches

Yep. Fundamentals are things like loops, conditionals, and maybe assignment. And even those are concepts based on certain kinds of logic gates that may or may not be relevant to your computing career. Javascript isn't any more fundamental than Basic or Cobol.

One thing I miss from college: The all women study group we had from TheoComp. I don't think I'm a misandrist but I really liked eating snacks, talking about the pumping lemma, and just feeling like I belong and it is safe not to know.

Seems like now is a good time to share a blog post about how all interviews are broken in some way.

Twitter is great for amplifying complaints. Today, my twitter is going to amplify successes. First up, the CNCF was able to raise $300,000 for scholarships to . I can see how this could be $1,000,000 next year. Who wants to be a part of the solution?

The best and worst part of being a manager? I only have the vaguest idea of what a given day will look like before I get into the office. Somedays it is super mellow. Other days random things are lightly smoldering and I have to quickly decide if they should be on fire or not.

I wish I had a wall at work to post this on. Such a concise summary of why “fix diversity” isn’t a checklist. Diversity is the result of changing behaviors and physical environments.

Why is it that there are always 10x submissions to a CFP in the last week? And most in the last 48 hours.

Some good thoughts as we head toward the end of the year from my colleague . Building a sustainable relationship with work is hard but important. And, in my case, sustainability lead to career advancement.

I was rambling at my partner about music tonight and he claimed he didn’t know a certain opera. I played a bit and it came to both of us that we knew it partially from Bugs Bunny. Gonna go watch “What’s Opera Doc” now.

One of the best parts of managering is when people tell me about awesome things my team and coworkers have done. One good thing about Google is those awesome words are often accompanied by a small bonus from a peer.

One of the most useful pieces of advice I got earlier in my career: You get to throw one temper tantrum a year at work. But you have to plan it and you have to tell your manager about it ahead of time. The rest of the time you have to compromise and share like an adult.

A QA engineer walks into a bar. Orders a beer. Orders 0 beers. Orders 99999999999 beers. Orders a lizard. Orders -1 beers. Orders a ueicbksjdhd. First real customer walks in and asks where the bathroom is. The bar bursts into flames, killing everyone.

Teaching the "Interactive CFP Writing Workshop" today to co-workers in SF. I've been thinking about offering to give this workshop to community groups as well but I'm unsure how that would go over. The goal of the event is everyone leaves with a proposal completed.
