Only 3 aveiros necessitate death rather than violation, based on Passuk ואהבת את ה״א בכל לבבך וכו׳. The only thing that supersedes “and you shall live by them” is “and you shall love Hashem”. Not necessarily because of how חמור they might be but davka bc of love for ה׳.

Today’s Rambam helped me to finally understand a Passuk i generally just pretend understanding when i really dont. כי עזה כמוות אהבה, ״love as strong as death” Rambam writes: The Mitzvah is to transgress rather than die, based on passuk וחי בהם.

Here’s something i find pretty amazing. After intensive work preparing an exacting and heavily footnoted (כדרכו בקודש) edition of the Rashba’s מאמר על ישמעאל, R’ Bezalel Naor discovers that he somehow missed that another scholar published a new edition 30 years ago.

Pretty great seeing R’ Naor get some recognition. A unique, original (and fun) thinker. probably the best translator of Rav Kook into English there is.

Where can I read more about Rav Bezalel Naor? Learn about him? Meet him? Do *not* skip his footnotes. That’s where the action is. Really jaw-dropping. Hope to read more.

is there any way to find out who purchased a particular ms at auction? moreover, is it true that once a piece goes into private hands its essentially gone from public access? wish we had some kind of museum of the stuff from these auction houses for the rest of us.
