    Weirdly the worst delay was when the city bus from Haleiwa to our rental house got clipped by tourists in a Mustang and we had to wait for the Honolulu Police to come take statements. Then the bus driver hugged the Mustang driver. 🤙

    Like, I understand why “you wanna take this outside” is supposed to be intimidating at a bar but “you wanna take this to Gate 86” just isn’t very convincing? “I won’t hurt you in front of everyone here but just wait until we’re all in an equally busy and secure place!”

    When I was mainly writing, I heard this great rule: "When people have a problem with a part of your text, they are usually right. When they suggest something to change it to, they are usually wrong." This seems to me a general truth. Has been helpful in the startup world too.

    Tried to get a dog walk in before the storm picks up and listening to the sounds of splintering timber around me; thinking maybe my timing was off. Dog is very serene though. (Don’t worry, mom, I’m safe and heading back inside now.)

    Ericsson and his colleagues observed another thing, in addition to practicing more, that separated the great students at the Berlin Conservatory from the good, something that has almost been completely ignored since: how they rested. The top performers actually slept about an hour a day more than the average performers. They didn’t sleep late. They got more sleep because they napped during the day.
    This is how we’ve come to believe that world-class performance comes after 10,000 hours of practice. But that’s wrong. It comes after 10,000 hours of deliberate practice, 12,500 hours of deliberate rest, and 30,000 hours of sleep.
