John C. Reid: +Matthias Bolliger how many times do you have to be told this before it sinks in? To be a business you have to be selling something. If you write a program, and others find it useful, and you give it away for free . . . That does not make you a business.

If you asked Notepad++ For it's tax returns there are none, because no money changed hands to get or use a copy of the software. There is not even a paid support option. Nothing is even filed in the name of Notepad++ because it is not a business, not even a nonprofit one.

He owns the name because it is what he named his program. So many use it because it's utility is unmatched. He can do what ever the hell he wants in the name of the software he wrote, named, and supports for free and your expectations don't even figure into it. Your entire argument is moot.

Johann Dirry: MD5 is legacy anyway. better to use SHA or BC Crypt.

Divided We-Fall: A md5 hash sum it's more then sufficient to verify the authenticity of a text editor installer.
Advanced cryptographic practices such and sha and generic measures like bc crypt are only practical when downloading from many sources at once like a BitTorrent or similar service or very large files such as operating system installers.
Encryption of private data is a trending topic but after evaluation it appears that encryption of personal or private data can be a dual edged sword.
Trusting off market or none time tested methodologies is proving to be more trouble than its worth.

Dario Volaric: Isn't racism all about excluding certain races from doing what others are allowed to do? Now impersonating is also called racism? I'm not sure what is worse, seeing someone do a bad impersonation of an asian man or the fact that anything we say or do is now labeled as racists / anti - feminist / anti - anything. If this goes on we will become a species of mindless drones without humor. We should be able to laugh at ourselves....We are all human after all...Well..most of us...

Vincent Bourdon: +Dario Volaric I agree. Racism is considering there are multiple races of human being (which there are NOT) and claiming some race(s) is superior to others. The real problem here is that this show was sad and NOT funny for the most part.
